It was bittersweet news for Michele Geda when he found out that he had been accepted into a music program at a school in Florence, Italy, even though it was hundreds of miles away from their home in the United States.

On the one hand, he was given the opportunity to further his education in a field that really interests him. On the other hand, it implied that he would have to spend his days away from his cherished dog, Kora.

Geda entrusted his daughter, Kora, to his mother and father’s care when he moved away to attend school.

Despite the physical separation that now exists between them, the love that they have for one another remains strong.

In point of fact, it has only had the opposite effect.

Geda had been gone for three months when she finally had the chance to pay her hometown a visit, and she jumped at the chance. Of course, his parents were aware that they would soon be welcoming him into the world; however, Kora was not aware that Geda would be arriving so soon.

That would be the most delightful of all unexpected developments.

Kora’s ears pricked up when she joined Geda’s parents on the balcony of their house, and she instantly perked up as she heard the noises of an approaching automobile. Then she saw the face of the driver:

A emotion that cannot be compared to any other is produced when one is extended such a warm welcome.

“It’s something that you cannot easily describe in words,” Geda said in an interview with The Dodo. “Because of her, I always have the feeling that I am loved and blessed.”

Since that time, Geda has made it a priority to stop by his hometown once every couple of months for a visit. And he can count on Kora to welcome him in the exact same manner every time.

Geda’s education will be finished in a very short amount of time, though, and he is hopeful that he will soon be able to stay with Kora permanently. She does not seem to be bereft of happiness or love in the meantime.

“She gives and gets so much love and company from my parents,” Geda said with me about her sister.
