In the middle of the month before, on a dreary and rainy day in Northeast Texas, Robin Clemons was busy having her vehicle inspected when she saw a puppy on the other side of the street. A little while later, she saw another dog, and then another after that. What exactly was going on at that location?
Clemons questioned the auto technician to see whether he was familiar with the pets. He explained to her that they had been there for some time, squatting in a neighboring abandoned barn by themselves.
Clemons, upon realizing that the little family needed assistance, sprinted back to her home in order to get some food for the puppies. After some time had passed, she returned with blankets and drink for them. She counted nine pups and their mother, all of them were extremely apprehensive of Clemons but delighted to have something to eat. She also found that the mother was quite hungry.
Clemons contacted the Northeast Texas Rescue Organization (NETRO), and shortly afterwards, members of the staff arrived at the location, prepared to assist in transporting the dogs to a secure location. After setting the traps, the rescue team waited. Within the span of two days, NETRO was successful in capturing all nine of the pups and returning them to the shelter. They also made a plan to return for the mother dog, who was still evading them.
The pups were happy to be in a foster home, where they could observe their new environment without fear. It was obvious that they had never experienced love before.
“It was very apparent that they were not used to humans at all,” the team at NETRO said in an interview with The Dodo.
The pups eventually came to like their foster home, which was an expansive farm with plenty of different things to see and do. They have had a lot of fun, in particular, getting to know the other animals who live on the farm with them.
“They are getting to see a lot of new animals,” stated the crew from NETRO. “When the cows approach their fence, it makes them go crazy with excitement, wanting to know more about these new strange creatures.”
For the time being, the pups are still developing their social skills, getting used to their new surroundings, and mastering the art of trusting others. They will eventually become available for adoption and search for permanent homes to call their own.
The staff at NETRO believes that the nine pups have a very promising future ahead of them.
