Saturday in New York City was the day that Robert De Niro and his family said their last goodbyes to their grandson, Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez.
Photos that Page Six was able to collect show Robert De Niro and the rest of his family and friends leaving the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in Manhattan and proceeding to the cemetery in Valhalla, New York, which is located around 40 minutes north of Manhattan. The New York Post reports that Robert De Niro’s father is also buried in the cemetery in Valhalla where Robert is.
According to the source, the actor most known for his role in the film Goodfellas arrived at the funeral home accompanied by security personnel and was taken inside by them. Behind him came Leandro’s parents, Drena De Niro and Carlos Rodriguez.
The memorial ceremony took place little over a week after Leandro’s mother shared the news that her son had passed away on July 2 in New York City. On Instagram, Drena, the legendary actor’s daughter who is now 51 years old, broke the awful news to her followers.
“My precious darling angel . Since the first time I felt you moving about inside of me, I have loved you in a way that cannot be put into words or adequately described.You have been the source of my happiness, my heart, and everything that has ever been genuine and authentic in my life. I really wish that I could be with you right now. I wish that I could be there with you. “I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama,” she said in the letter. “I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.” “You were so truly loved and cherished, and I wish that love alone could have saved you. I hope that love alone could have saved you.I am so sad, my little baby, and I am very sorry, @carlosmare. Dearest son, may you finally find rest in the eternal paradise you so well deserved.🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️”
After some time had passed, Drena issued a statement to ET in which she said, “It is with unfathomable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our cherished son Leo.” We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support, and we would appreciate it if you could give us some space right now so that we may work through this unfathomable loss.
The sad mother eventually revealed what she thought to be the reason for her son’s passing away.
“Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him,” Drena said in a new Instagram remark in response to a follower who had questioned, “OMG, why? ” Drena was responding to the question posed by the user. How?”
She finished her statement with a sobbing emoticon and said, “So for all these people still f**king around selling and buying this s**t, my son is gone forever.”
De Niro has also spoken on the passing of his grandchild, and he did so in a statement that was sent to ET.
The message started out with the words, “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo.” “We would want to express our gratitude to everyone who has sent their sympathies. We respectfully request that we be allowed some privacy as we mourn the passing of Leo.
