A break is being taken by Kelly Clarkson so that she may concentrate on her family.

With the news that her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, is sick, the singer-songwriter said on Wednesday, August 6, that she would be delaying her residency in Las Vegas in order to spend more time with their children, River, who is ten years old, and Remington, who is eight years old.

“It is with great regret that I must inform you that I must postpone the remaining Studio Session dates scheduled for the month of August in Las Vegas,” Clarkson stated in an Instagram post.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” the statement added. “I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause him.” Regarding everyone who purchased tickets to the events, please accept my heartfelt apologies, and know that I am very grateful for your grace, generosity, and understanding.

In response to a request for comment made by PEOPLE, a representative from Blackstock did not immediately answer.

The marriage between Clarkson and Blackstock lasted for seven years until the couple divorced in June of 2020. During the course of their marriage, they became parents to two children: a girl named River Rose and a boy named Remington Alexander. A divorce petition was submitted by Clarkson to the music management in the year 2020, and the divorce was completed two years later.

As stated by Clarkson in an interview with PEOPLE in January 2024, the divorce was “extraordinarily difficult.”

She made a reference to her album Chemistry when she remarked, “You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming.”

On the other hand, on March 27, Clarkson made a rare appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast. During her appearance, she made remarks regarding Blackstock and brought attention to the double standards that exist between working mothers and working fathers.

“There’s a lot that I keep in because … co-parenting is fun,” she said with laughter. When I hear something like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because of this,’ I think to myself, ‘Okay, that’s great.’ Do you believe that I will simply go out and spend the whole day sitting in the park?
