In Britain’s Got Talent’s fifteenth season, the three known as The Dots made it to the semi-finals with their hilarious performances. Amanda, Rosie, and Cathy were a trio who auditioned together; their ages ranged from 32 to 38.
Amanda said, “All over the place” when asked where they performed before their audition, however Cathy came in at the last minute to replace a member who quit due to “creative differences” and claimed she had never performed with the three before.
During their audition, the three danced to the Andrews Sisters’ “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” (complete with trumpets) in a planned performance; Cathy’s “mistakes” became more severe as the audition progressed. Alesha said that she ‘liked [the trios] premise, [she] enjoyed watching things go wrong, and [that the trios’ performance] was proper entertainment,’ while Simon said that the trio’s performance was ‘amazing’ because they’truly, really deceived [him]’. Amanda seemed to pass out after obtaining four yes votes from the judges and had to be helped off the stage by her legs, but the three maintained their character throughout the judges’ comments.
Cathy was briefly replaced by Jane, another friend of Amanda’s, during their semi-final performance, but Jane promptly fell off the platform, prompting the three to swiftly reassemble Cathy. In their rendition of Judy Garland’s “Trolley Song,” they were once again brought down by Cathy’s gaffes, such as donning the incorrect attire, forgetting to sing a solo, and KOing the backup dancers. Wearing skirts that said “Britain’s Got Talent,” the three stood next to each other as they finished their performance. Since the judges weren’t as enthusiastic as they had been during auditions, Simon buzzed them throughout their performance. David said, “It didn’t land in quite the same way tonight, I think there was a bit too much going on.” Amanda agreed, saying, “I just think it was almost too slapstick this evening, but it takes a lot of skill to get all of that comedy timing correct.”
