In the city of Corvallis, Oregon, on July 13, Naomi Pomeroy became the first person to drown in the year. She passed away one day after her loss.

Naomi Pomeroy, a well-liked and well-known chef who participated in the Top Chef Masters competition on Bravo, has passed away. 49 was her age.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon, Pomeroy unfortunately became the region’s first drowning casualty of the year when she drowned on July 13 at around 8:25 p.m. in the Willamette River in Corvallis, roughly 100 yards upstream from the Mary’s River. Pomeroy’s loss was a devastating loss for the community.

According to the authorities, Pomeroy and two adults who were riding tubes and a paddleboard became entangled on an exposed snag in the water. Two of the tubes were secured together, and Pomeroy was attached to the paddle board. According to the authorities, Pomeroy was unable to free herself from the tug of the paddleboard leash, which caused her to be pulled under the water.

During the time that authorities were searching for Pomeroy’s body, the two adults were transported to a boat launch from a secure location. They searched the area with sonar, underwater cameras, and drones, but they were unable to find Pomeroy because of the heavy debris that was in the water. Deputies and personnel from the Corvallis Fire Department searched the area simultaneously. After the sun went down, the search efforts were halted, but they have continued each day since Saturday in an attempt to locate her mortal remains. It has been stated by the authorities that they will continue their search until her body is found.

Sheriff Van Arsdall stated that “this Office is dedicated to locating Naomi and bringing her home to her family and loved ones,” and he stressed the importance of this mission. “I want to thank all involved in the search and recovery mission during this difficult time.”

Pomeroy’s husband, Kyle Linden Webster, is reportedly one of the two adults who survived the accident, as reported by The Oregonian.

Pomeroy was a well-liked chef in Portland, and she is recognized with being the driving force behind the city’s tremendous culinary growth, which began in 2007 when she established her restaurant, Beast. After that, she participated in the third season of Top Chef Master, which was shown in the spring of 2011. She came in fourth place in the competition and was awarded a reward of $26,800 for her contributions. In the future, Pomeroy would also make a comeback to Top Chef, this time as a guest judge and dining guest.

Her accomplishments include being named a “Chef to Watch” by both Food & Wine and Oprah magazines, according to the latter publication. After that, in the year 2014, she was honored with the renowned James Beard Award for being the greatest chef in the Pacific Northwest.

Pomeroy was also the proprietor of the Portland cocktail bar known as Expatriate, which she founded with her husband. KOIN reported that the institution was shuttered on Monday, and that mourners had laid flowers outside the establishment in remembrance of Pomeroy. KOIN also stated that the doors were locked.
