The actor Ian Gelder, who portrayed Kevan Lannister on the HBO series Game of Thrones, has passed away. He was 74 years old.
Ben Daniels, Gelder’s spouse, made the announcement with a post on Instagram on Tuesday, May 7, announcing that his husband had passed away.
It is with a heavy heart that is shattered into a million pieces that I am leaving this post to announce the demise of my dear husband and life partner, Ian Gelder. I am leaving this post with a tremendous, great amount of pain. During the month of December, Ian was given a diagnosis of bile duct cancer, and he died away yesterday at 13:07. When I decided to become his caregiver, I had to cease all of my job, but none of us had any clue that everything would happen so quickly,” Daniels stated.
Daniels referred to his companion of more than three decades at the time as his “absolute rock” and described him as “the kindest, most generous-spirited, and loving human being.”
Adding that Gelder was also a “wonderful, wonderful actor,” he said that “if we weren’t together, we spoke to each other every day.” He also mentioned that everyone who worked with Gelder was struck by his heart and brightness.
If I were to go through life without him at my side, I would be completely at a loss. In spite of his terrible sickness, he persevered with such fortitude and showed no sign of self-pity. At any time. In addition, Daniels stated, “He was truly remarkable and will be sorely missed.”

He made the news next to a picture of the two of them celebrating Christmas. He uploaded the picture after Gelder had been discharged from the hospital and had gone through “the worst three weeks.”
The loss of Gelder was also confirmed to PEOPLE by his agent, who referred to him as “a beautiful man, a fine actor” and said that he was someone who “will be hugely missed by his colleagues and all those that loved him.”
In a statement that was published on X, which was previously known as Twitter, the management of DMA said that “the world will be a lesser place without him in it.”
According to his website on IMDb, Gelder has been in a total of twelve episodes of Game of Thrones. In addition, he has contributed to a number of other significant projects, such as Doctor Who, Fifteen-Love, and His Dark Materials.
Gelder was scheduled to reprise his role as Santiago, a vampire, in the forthcoming season of Interview With the Vampire, which will make its debut on AMC on Sunday, May 12th. Additionally, he was scheduled to make an appearance in the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which will be released on Prime Video later this year.
