A resolute father who suffers from Parkinson’s disease went above and beyond to ensure that he did not miss out on any of the precious moments that life has to offer.
In order to make it feasible for Bobby Orr, who is 72 years old and also suffers from spinal stenosis, to lead his daughter down the aisle and have a turn with her on the dance floor during her wedding, he put in extra hours of work with a physical therapist.
Holly Marrocco, who is 38 years old and Orr’s daughter, told People that her father has suffered development of his Parkinson’s disease in the ten years after he was diagnosed with the condition. However, he continues to fight back against the neurodegenerative ailment by participating in boxing lessons and working out every morning. Orr “never lets his disease take him down,” she adds, characterizing her father as “a beast” who has “a lot of strength and will.” This accomplishment is despite the fact that Orr battles with pain and balance.
Beginning in June 2022, after Marrocco announced her engagement to Orr, she approached him with the idea of doing a father-daughter dance at her wedding. “He was receptive to the idea and up for the challenge, knowing it was going to be something he had to prepare for,” she says in her memory.
What he did was prepare, and then some more. The family went out to the Fox Rehabilitation Center, and they were able to put Orr in touch with Moira Vayda, a physical therapist. According to Marrocco, Vayda worked “tirelessly” with her father to improve his balance, walking, and coordination. “This was to help him with his day to day but also for walking me down the aisle and our dance together,” Marrocco goes on to add.
Before the wedding that was scheduled to take place in October 2023, the father and daughter spent almost one month rehearsing their dance in the kitchen. “My mother and Moira looked on with tears in their eyes,” Marrocco recalls. “They were watching and crying.”
A song by Céline Dion titled “Because You Loved Me” was playing on the dance floor when the couple decided to dance together on their special day. “I had this song in my head for my father and me to dance to for a long time because the lyrics are everything I’ve thought of my dad my entire life,” Marrocco told the news outlet. “My dad has been everything to me, he’s been there with his unconditional love, to encourage, support and protect me.”
During the emotional time of the pair’s unique dance, Marrocco said that she was “fully absorbed” in the experience.
“As I was dancing with him, I couldn’t help but think about how self-assured and proud he was of himself. She recalls, “The moment made my heart so happy to be able to share such an unforgettable time with him, and although I did shed a few tears, I could not help but feel a little emotional.” “We danced flawlessly, with him twirling me, and I even gave him a few spins,” she said. “I belted out the lyrics to him, and we laughed at how terrible my singing is, despite the fact that in my head I sound exactly like Céline.”

“My best friend and maid of honor said there wasn’t a dry eye in the place,” Marrocco continues to say.
Vayda was there to see the culmination of all of her efforts together with Orr, which added an additional layer of significance to the wedding dance. “Moira attended our wedding in support of my father, which was so kind of her,” according to Marrocco. Her love for our family is unwavering, and we are grateful for all she has done for us. She went above what was expected of her.
With the comment, “Our patient Bobby has Parkinson’s disease and spinal stenosis, but that didn’t let that stop him from enjoying a very special moment with his daughter on her big day!” Fox uploaded a video of the heartwarming dance that the father and daughter performed together on TikTok.
Marrocco said with People that she was really blown away by the very positive reaction to the article.
“The comments were very heartwarming; they were given by complete strangers who said how beautiful and unique it was, as well as how the movie made their hearts melt. Despite this, she continues to visit the site in order to read all of the comments and watch the video over and over again.
The experience that Marrocco’s father had with Parkinson’s disease encouraged her to begin volunteering at Rock Steady Boxing Boston, where she eventually got trained as a coach. Rock Steady Boxing Boston provides persons with Parkinson’s with fitness training that is inspired by boxing and does not include physical contact. Her dad is a member of the club that she attends.
“Coaching the class has allowed me to give back to the Parkinson’s community and help people,” she adds in her statement.
When Marrocco thinks back on her wedding, she expresses her profound gratitude for the fact that both of her parents were there to see her walk down the aisle. “Having them both by my side was perfect,” she adds in her statement. “It was a beautiful moment that I will cherish forever.”
