In the impending sequel to Moana, the star will remain the same.
In a post that she published on Instagram on Tuesday, Auli’i Cravalho, who provided the voice of the title heroine in the critically acclaimed animated picture Moana, which was released by Disney in 2016, confirmed that she would be returning to her role in the studio’s newly announced sequel.
On the social media site, Cravalho, who is 23 years old, uploaded a brief video of herself striking a posture in front of the renowned Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. In the video, she lip syncs to Beyoncé’s most recent hit, which is titled “Texas Hold ‘Em.”
“The feeling when you’re officially returning to Motunui,” Cravahlo wrote in a description on her video, referring to the fictitious Polynesian island that serves as the setting for the film. Furthermore, the actress included the following in the description that accompanied the post: “We’re sailing WAY beyond the reef in November… ❤️🌀🐚 #Moana two.”
The confirmation that Cravalho would reprise her role as Moana comes almost three weeks after Disney Animation Company stated that Moana 2 will be released in cinemas in the month of November. Cravalho posted the same brief teaser that the studio had issued along with the news on her Instagram account at the time, despite the fact that her return as Moana’s voice actress had not yet been announced.
In a statement that was sent on February 7, the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, stated, “Moana continues to be an extremely popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.” A summary for the planned film Moana 2 states that it “takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.” Moana 2 is scheduled to be released in 2019.
“After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced,” according to the description.
Dave Derrick Jr. is the director of the sequel, which will be released about eight years after the first film, which was released on November 23, 2016, made $687 million worldwide. The soundtrack for the sequel was composed by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina.
Dwayne Johnson, who plays Maui in Moana, made the statement in April 2023 that Disney is also producing a live-action rendition of the 2016 film. The announcement of Moana 2 occurred many months following Johnson’s declaration. Although Johnson has not yet confirmed that he would also provide the voice of Maui in the animation Moana sequel, he has acknowledged that he will play the role of Maui in the next live-action picture. The fact that Cravalho will be working on the live-action Moana as an executive producer would make it possible for Disney to choose a new actress to portray the role of Moana in the television version.
The way that we think about Disney princesses has been profoundly altered as a result of her influence. “Moana’s strength and perseverance are inspiring — to audiences all over the world, to me, and to everyone who helped bring her to life,” Cravalho said of Moana in a statement that was sent out in conjunction with the news of the live-action feature. “I’m looking forward to sharing her story in a whole new way.”
Moana 2 will be released in cinemas on November 27.
