The lovely Mellisa Rivers is tying the knot!
Last month, the actress and television personality, who is 55 years old and is the daughter of the late comedy great Joan Rivers, became engaged to the legal representative, Steve Mitchel. The information was first reported for the first time on Page Six.
“I’m still in complete and total shock, even a month later, but beyond happy,” Rivers says in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. “It’s a big step for both of us, and I’m still in complete and total shock.” “And maybe most significantly, my mother would have given her OK to wear the ring. Oh yes, and also about Steve!”
The first time the two crossed paths was at a Didi Hirsch event for mental health and suicide prevention. “I am Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors. She explains that he was there since a buddy invited him to come along. “It isn’t very often that a person who is completely unknown to me approaches me and begins conversing. We’ve been living under the same roof for close to a year and a half at this point.”
Rivers, who was previously married to John Endicott for five years until their divorce in 2003, had a change of heart after years of adamantly proclaiming that she would never walk down the aisle of a church again.
“I had a really nice run, and all of my friends are joking that I nearly made it to the finish line of remaining single for the rest of my life. It’s something that, deep down within, I never in a million years thought I’d really be able to pull off. She explains, half-jokingly, that “I didn’t see it coming and it’s really not easy to pull a fast one on me.” She then goes on to claim that “apparently hell freezes over and pigs do fly,” and then she laughs. I was on the verge of fainting out when Steve put some smelling salt up my nose, and after that I said yes.

Rivers admits that she is having a good time as a fiancée, but she also claims that she and her fiance have no immediate plans to tie the knot.
“We’re still at the beginning stages. Nothing has been thought out at this point. If we decide to have a celebration that includes a ceremony and a party, I don’t see it happening any earlier than 2025. I can assure you that it will not be anything like my first wedding or anything else on that level.
While Mitchel and his future wife were on vacation at the One & Only Mandarina Resort in Mexico, he decided to ask her to be his wife.

“The entire day was a comedy of errors,” she adds. “[T]he whole thing was a farce.” “From that point on, it was already Friday the 13th. In retrospect, Steve’s behavior throughout the day was a complete mess. I suppose that as soon as he got up, he recognized the date, and he asked me whether I had any unfavorable thoughts towards Friday the 13th.
“While we were eating supper on the beach, there was a boat in the distance that started flashing its lights on and off. I wasn’t paying any attention to my surroundings since I was completely preoccupied with trying to find out why the boat was acting the way it did. Steve shared his feelings for me by expressing his desire to spend the rest of his life with me. I repeated myself, but I wasn’t even looking at him while I spoke to him. This yacht took a great deal of my attention. Finally, he replied in an irritated tone, “I got you something.” When I turned back, the ring was already sitting on the table, and at that point, I fell into complete shock. When he asked me, “well?” I was completely stunned, but because I was wearing the ring, it was evident that I had to answer “yes.”
She continues by saying, “Steve had been so anxious the whole day that by the time we got back to the hotel room, he had literally passed out.” I hadn’t even started removing my makeup when I realized that he was already sound asleep.
In a sneaky move, Mitchel went behind Rivers’ back and asked one of her closest friends, Peter McNeal, of McNeal and Grunberg to create the breathtaking sparkler just for her.
“Knowing that all of the people I love were involved makes the ring so much more meaningful,” she adds. “It makes the ring so much more meaningful.”
Before he proposed to Rivers, her fiance made sure to get her son, Cooper Endicott, who is 22 years old, to give his blessing.
“Before making his proposal, Steve contacted me to talk to my kid, Cooper. Cooper said, “Great! But let’s not rush to the altar too quickly; we don’t want to frighten her!”
