Together, George and Amal Clooney are shining a light on courageous people who are making a difference all across the globe.
Thursday evening at the New York Public Library was the location of the second annual Albies, which was presented by the couple’s Clooney Foundation for Justice. Co-hosting the event with Microsoft, Versace, and Charlotte Tilbury Beauty was President Darren Walker of the Ford Foundation. Other event partners were Charlotte Tilbury Beauty and Versace.
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson, Mary J. Blige, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, Greta Gerwig, and Noah Baumbach were among the notable guests that attended the event.

Amal, who is 45 years old, dazzled with a sparkling white gown with rhinestone netting that had spaghetti straps and a lengthy train. George, 62, who was dressed impeccably in a sleek black tuxedo and bowtie, was the one who put his arm around her.
According to the organization, the Albies are meant to pay tribute to “brave individuals who, at great personal risk, have dedicated their lives to justice.” These honorees were named after Justice Albie Sachs. It includes influential people in fields such as business, entertainment, fashion, and technology, among others.
Dr. Denis Mukwege, a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo who works as a gynecologist and advocates for human rights, was given the organization’s lifetime achievement award. The journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, who covered the story of the passing of Mahsa Amini in Iran, were given the Justice for Women Award.
The prize for justice for survivors was presented to the Ukrainian rights organization known as Truth Hounds. The Justice for Journalists Award was presented to the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression, while the Justice for Democracy Defenders Award was presented to the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights.
In 2016, George and Amal Clooney established the Clooney Foundation for Justice, and in September of last year, they hosted the first-ever Albies. George and Amal are the parents of twins Alexander and Ella, who are now 6 years old.
At the event from the previous year, George told PEOPLE that the work that they do on the Albies and their charity is something that his wife, a human rights attorney, “happens to be really especially gifted at.”
In addition to that, “My father was a journalist. He continued by saying, “I have a great affinity for them, as her mother is a journalist,” which was something he had said before. “When she is able to get folks who are unfairly charged for performing their work out [of jail], it is incredibly wonderful for me. Therefore, I must say that, as for myself, I cannot express how proud I am of my wife.
