CoCo Lee passed away on Monday, two days after attempting to take her own life. Her age was 48.
Carol and Nancy Lee, two of the singer-songwriter’s elder sisters, made the announcement on social media on Wednesday, stating that she had passed away earlier that day. The singer-songwriter was born in Hong Kong. They disclosed the information that Coco had been suffering from depression for a number of years in a statement that was published on Facebook and Instagram.
“With great sadness, we are here [to] break the most devastating news: CoCo had been suffering from depression for a few years, but her condition had drastically deteriorated over the last few months,” the sisters said in their letter. “With great sadness, we are here [to] break the most devastating news.” Despite the fact that Coco sought professional assistance and tried all in her power to overcome her despair, unfortunately, the devil that resided inside her ultimately triumphed.

They went on to say that “on July 2nd, she made an attempt to end her life at home and was taken to the hospital.” On July 5th, she died suddenly, despite the best efforts of the medical staff to pull her out of her coma and begin treatment for her condition.
CoCo, a well-known pop artist in Asia, had some of the high points of her career in the 1990s and the early 2000s. According to Reuters, she got a contract with Sony Music Entertainment in 1996, and the following year, her first album, titled Coco Lee, became the best-selling record in Asia. Her early work was in the genre of Mandopop, but she went on to record albums in both Cantonese and English. Her song “Do You Want My Love” was successful enough to make it into the charts in the United States, and she released her debut album in English in 1999 under the title Just No Other Way.
At the 2001 Academy Awards, her heartfelt ballad “A Love Before Time” from the critically acclaimed movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was nominated for the award for Best Original ballad. During that particular occasion, she gave a live performance of the song.
Additionally, the pop artist is known for voicing the female warrior Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney’s Mulan and singing the Mandarin version of the movie’s theme song, “Reflection.” She has roles in three different movies, two of which were directed by Lee Xin: Master of Everything and No Tobacco.
Bruce Rockowitz, a Canadian businessman and a former chief executive of Li & Fung, was Coco’s husband. CoCo was his wife. Although she did not have any children of her own, she did take on the role of stepmother to her husband’s two girls.

In the statement they posted on Instagram, CoCo’s sisters said that the year 2023 will commemorate the 30th anniversary of her career as a singer.
“CoCo is also known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese,” they said. “CoCo is also known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene.”
“On behalf of the whole family of Coco, I would want to express our profound appreciation and sense of privilege for having a sister of her caliber. We want to express our gratitude to God for entrusting us with such a good angel.
Following their expression of gratitude to the medical professionals who had been caring for their sister over the previous several days, Carol and Nancy requested their supporters to spread positivity around the globe in honor of Coco.

They said, “We hope that everyone will not only miss CoCo, but also share her bright smile, treat people with sincerity, and convey kindness and love to everyone around us, and continue to carry out CoCo’s wish to let everyone around us feel her love and happiness.”
The sisters summed up their message by saying that although though Coco will only be here in this world for a short period of time, her light will shine on forever.
