In the 43-year history of the organization, this contribution is the single-largest gift ever received from a person.
The intention behind Jordan’s choice to celebrate his birthday by making a donation to Make-A-Wish is for it to motivate people to assist in making the dreams of children who are still awaiting the granting of their wishes come true.
Jordan was quoted as saying in a press release that it has been a pleasure to work with Make-A-Wish for the last 34 years and help provide a smile and happiness to so many children by granting their wishes. “Being able to see their fortitude and resiliency in the face of such a challenging situation in their life has really been an inspiration.”
In 1989, Michael Jordan became a supporter of the Make-A-Wish foundation. Today, Jordan is the owner of the NBA team Charlotte Hornets.
