As Brendan Fraser walked the red carpet for the UK premiere of The Whale on the seventh day of the BFI London Film Festival on Tuesday, he was enthusiastically backed by his stunning girlfriend Jeanne Moore. The event was part of the BFI London Film Festival.
The actor, who is 53 years old and whose performance in the psychological thriller has gained him critical praise, cut a suave figure as he stood beside the director Darren Aronofsky and the screenwriter Samuel D. Hunter.
Meanwhile, Jeanne, who did her first grand entrance with Brendan at the Venice Film Festival last month, chose a stunning electric blue gown as she made her debut with Brendan in front of the public.
As Brendan made his way down the red carpet at London’s Royal Festival Hall, he put on an impressive show by donning a black suit and looking quite dapper.
Jeanne, on the other hand, chose to wear a blue gown that had a plunging neckline, a dramatic skirt, and beaded details. She completed her look with a navy clutch bag.
Since it made its debut at the Venice Film Festival a month ago, The Whale has received amazing reviews from critics, and it has helped jumpstart Brendan’s return after he pulled away from the limelight as a result of his problems with depression.
Brendan was seen fighting back tears in the video that was uploaded on social media after the showing of the film. He was receiving a long-standing ovation at the time.
The renowned diva, who had battled melancholy in the wake of an accusation of sexual assault and had been in and out of the hospital for health difficulties, makes her return in the film after having to deal with these challenges.
Because The Whale is a psychological drama, Brendan had to go through a physical metamorphosis in order to portray the character of a homosexual man who weighs 600 pounds and is confined to a wheelchair. In addition, for this role, he had to wear prosthetics.
According to the movie’s official plot summary, it follows “a solitary English teacher suffering from extreme obesity who wants to reconcile with his estranged teenage daughter for one final shot at forgiveness.”
The movie is scheduled to be released in cinemas on December 9, and it will represent Brendan’s first starring part in a movie since the direct-to-DVD thriller Breakout in 2013. This has led many of Brendan’s admirers to assume that he is making a return with this picture.
When Fraser was cast in the children’s film series George of the Jungle and The Mummy, it catapulted him to the forefront of the entertainment industry.
As he thrashed about the sets executing stunts in high-action parts, he earned a place as a Hollywood hunk thanks to his wonderfully chiseled body, which earned him the position.
In a subsequent interview, though, Fraser discussed the physical toll that the feats had done on his body.
He said in an interview with GQ in 2018 that in order to protect his injuries during the filming of the third part of The Mummy trilogy, he was wrapped up and iced in between takes.
He said that the physical toll of his performances made him feel like a workhorse from the book Animal Farm written by George Orwell. He made this statement from his home in Bedford, New York.
Following his meteoric rise to recognition as a result of the adrenaline-pumping movie, Fraser referred to his ripped figure as resembling “a walking steak.”
Nevertheless, the actor disclosed in the same interview that he believed he had been blacklisted from Hollywood after he claimed in 2003 that he had been sexually assaulted by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Philip Berk. In addition, the actor stated that he believed the blacklisting occurred as a result of his allegations.
Fraser said that the handshake took place as he was exiting a luncheon held by the HFPA at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Hollywood. Berk was present at the event.
He added: ‘I felt unwell. I felt like a tiny child. I had the sensation that there was a ball lodged in my throat. I was on the verge of bursting into tears.
It was alleged by Fraser that he was successful in removing Berk’s hand before he dashed out of the hotel and went directly to his house. He did share the story with his then-wife, Afton Smith, but he never disclosed it to the general public.
Instead, his representatives requested a written apology from Berk, which he complied with but did not use as an opportunity to accept guilt.
Berk, when asked about the allegations by GQ, admitted that he had sent a letter of apology to Fraser; nonetheless, he asserted that he had not done anything wrong and referred to Fraser’s statement as “pure fiction.” Berk also denied the allegations as false.
After Fraser submitted the allegation to the HFPA, he stated he feared he may have been “blacklisted” and that he was seldom invited back to the Golden Globe ceremonies. This was after Fraser reported that he had been invited to the awards ceremony.
According to Fraser, the event pushed him further and more into a state of sadness, which prompted him to retreat.’
As the decade progressed, he acknowledged feeling more “not worthy,” which led him to accept positions of which he was less proud.
