Jimmy Amisial, a student at Texas State University, had no clue that returning to Haiti in 2017 would cause such a dramatic shift in the trajectory of his life.

The man, who was 22 years old at the time, was on his way to a New Year’s party when he came upon a group of individuals congregating around a pile of garbage.

According to what Amisial said, “When I arrived to the area where the folks were making noise, I observed a baby.”

He continued by saying, “It was in a pile of junk wailing, and there wasn’t a single person who wanted to do anything about it.” He went on to say that this was presumably because of a local myth that the newborn would be cursed or possessed by a demon. However, Amisial did not show any sign of hesitation.

“He was bare. After being there for a few hours, fire ants began to swarm all over him, and he was being attacked by them. As soon as I picked him up, he stopped weeping,” he said to the media source.

After that, he took the infant, who was only three months old at the time, to his mother at home, where she attempted to comfort him and cure the bug bites he had suffered. Because no one had come forward to claim the kid, the next day, when the police came, they asked him if he would be willing to take on the position of the boy’s legal guardian because no one else had claimed him.

“I took a leap of faith by saying yes to that, even though I didn’t know how I was going to be able to take care of him,” he continued. “I said yes even though I didn’t know how I was going to be able to take care of him.”

Even though Amisial was forced to return to the United States due the student visa he was on, the kid, whom he named Emilio Angel Jeremiah, remained in the care of his mother. Amisial gave the boy the name Emilio Angel Jeremiah. After that, Amisial was compelled to give up his academic pursuits in order to take on part-time jobs as a gardener and a delivery helper in order to contribute financially to the boy’s upbringing.

In 2019, Amisial began the formal adoption process for Emilio; however, it has been both time-consuming and costly. It is estimated that the adoption procedure might take anywhere from two years to five years and can cost anywhere from $24,000 to $31,000. Amisial, who characterizes Emilio as a “joyous” youngster, maintains regular communication with him via the use of video talks despite the fact that this is the case.

Along with singing and playing the guitar, one of his favorite things to do is watch “Tom and Jerry.” He is a very cheerful kid who takes pleasure in participating in various athletic activities. He said that he also plays soccer and basketball.

My mother and I both had the impression that we were instantly connected to him. When he refers to me, he calls me by the name of my father. Despite the fact that I am now serving as his temporary guardian, I will always consider myself to be his father.

Because of their connection, Amisial decided to start a GoFundMe campaign in order to collect the funds required to complete the adoption process. As of right now, the campaign has already collected more than $150,000. Amisial has also made a decision on how he would spend any more money.

“With the support of your contributions, our goal is to adopt Emilio in his entirety. Pay for Emilio’s education, help out needy families and youngsters in the community, and maybe even pay some of my school costs and the weight of my student loans. Amisial said in a Facebook post that with “you,” it is possible to do anything.

Amisial maintains a positive attitude despite not being aware of what is ahead.

“If there is one thing I have learned in life, it is that if you choose love, you will never make a mistake. On the website of the fundraising organization GoFundMe, he said that “it was those heavenly times and interventions to showcase love, clarity, and show the world that we can do better.”

He informed him that his only chance for him was for Emilio’s life to become better:

“I want him to have a happy face. Despite the fact that he was neglected, I want him to know that he is not without company because I want to teach him how to love.
