Two siblings who had not seen each other since they were kids and had been separated for 18 years finally found each other and were reunited. Find out how they connected.
Before social media, it was nearly impossible to find information about long-lost relatives or close friends. But since it came to light, it has become easier to find old friends and family members who haven’t seen each other in a while and get back together with them.
Luke, a young man, was able to find his long-lost sister on social media 18 years after they had been separated as kids. Here is everything you need to know about the siblings, who were excited to see each other again after a long time.
Luke and Shawney are brothers and sisters who grew up together in New Mexico. Even though they grew up in different foster homes, their caretakers made sure that they spent quality time together.
Luke was apparently taken in by a family, but his sister could not join them. So, Shawney was given to another couple to raise, and his parents moved to different parts of the country. This meant that Shawney and his brother had to live far away from each other.
Both kids had happy families and enjoyed life to the fullest as they grew up. They were given chances, and in the end, they turned out to be good adults. But Luke didn’t start looking for his sister until they were at this point in their lives.
Luke had a hard time looking for Shawney because he only knew her first name. But he didn’t give up, and his attempts paid off in the end. In 2017, the young man looked for a person named Shawney on Facebook and sent her a message.
Luke was surprised when he got a response, and after a lot of back and forth, they realized they had found each other after 18 years. A few months ago, Luke told everyone how happy he was. In an episode of “The Real,” the young man said that what happened to him was “surreal.”
Luke also told them that they had been too far apart to see each other. But he finally got what he wanted, and the siblings met up on the talk show. It was a beautiful and touching moment for the two of them. Shawney said about the long-awaited moment:
“Right now, I don’t know what to say. I’m shaking and my heart is racing. This is incredible.”
Shawney admitted that she did not know about Luke until she was 13 years old. The young woman then said without hesitation that she started looking for her brother on Facebook.
But it was hard for her to find her brother because she didn’t know his last name. But when Luke sent her a message, she thought he was her big brother.
The producers of “The Real” also offered Shawney a trip to Baltimore to see Luke and his two-year-old son, in addition to having the siblings on their show. Shawney was happy to see Luke again and was looking forward to meeting her new nephew.
