When it comes to the choice that Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach made to eventually tie the knot, Greta Gerwig is revealing all the specifics!

A spokeswoman for the Barbie director, who is 40 years old, announced in December that she and her longtime spouse, who is 54 years old, had formally tied the knot in New York City Hall after being together for a period of 12 years.

During the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, which took place on Thursday night, Gerwig spoke with ET the reasons why she and Baumbach came to the conclusion that the opportunity to name each other husband and wife had finally come.

“We wanted to do it, we kept waiting for a moment to make a big wedding, but suddenly we were like, ‘We’ll do a big wedding at some point, but let’s just do it,'” she told the news organization.

As Gerwig continued, “And we were like, ‘Let’s go to city hall, and let’s go to Billy Joel,'” she said. Gerwig was spotted with her husband on December 19 at Madison Square Garden, which is where they reportedly celebrated their wedding.

In 2011, the pair started dating after meeting for the first time on the set of Baumbach’s film Greenberg, which was released in 2010. They now have a son named Harold Ralph Gerwig Baumbach, who is four years old, and a baby that they silently welcomed in 2023.

Baumbach gave an interview to Vogue in December 2019, in which he discussed the aspects of working with Gerwig that he finds most enjoyable. The two have collaborated on a number of projects, some of which include White Noise, Mistress America, Greenberg, Frances Ha, and the movie Barbie, which is scheduled to be a blockbuster in 2023.

While speaking to the publication, he said, “I believe that the pleasure of writing for us is that it seeps into everything.” “I’d show her a cut of my movie, and then a few months later, I’m watching her movie.”

“I don’t want to sound sickeningly happy, but it’s a truly great thing to watch someone you love make something and love the thing they make,” according to Baumbach. “I don’t know how else to say it without saying great a lot.”

In October, during a question and answer session with both Gerwig and Judd Apatow, the screenwriter for Barbie said that despite the fact that he first considered the project to be “a terrible idea,” Gerwig ultimately decided to sign him up for it.

Baumbach said that he eventually came to the conclusion that the movie was the “best thing we’ve ever written.”

“I know enough always just to follow what Greta says, so even in my bellyaching and revolting, I kind of knew, ‘Well if she really believes it, then there’s something there,'” according to him, according to Variety.
