Regina King is discussing the ways in which her perspective on life has shifted in the years that have passed following the passing of her son, Ian.

The Oscar winner, who is 54 years old, makes this statement in an interview with Haute Living Los Angeles, which was published on Thursday, August 21. “Now, I understand that sadness and happiness can be happening at the same time,” she says.

In addition, King, who played the lead role in the upcoming film Caught Stealing directed by Darren Aronofsky, said, “I live in the moment more than ever before.” I am not sure whether it is something that just occurs with the passage of time, with the experience of sorrow, or with the epidemic – most likely all of these things. But I can sense it.”

During the month of January 2022, the actress’s sole child, son Ian, whom she had shared with her ex-husband Ian Alexander Sr., took his own life. He was 26 years old. “Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian,” King said in a statement of the time, adding, “He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others.” Ian was a member of the King family.

In an interview with Haute Living Los Angeles, King told the publication that MianU, the orange wine that she created in honor of Ian, is one way that she is able to keep his memory alive.

All of his artistic and creative prowess may be found in it. “It was a kind of flash of insight that I had that originated from a place of continuing to create memories in Ian’s spirit,” she said in an interview with the site. “Everywhere I go, I hear people talking about their children, whether it be engagements, weddings, or new chapters in their lives. Talking about Ian is something I still enjoy doing; however, I do not have the opportunity to make new memories in the same way that they do. However, I am not concentrating on it. For me, this is the means by which we may jointly create something new.

Another thing that she said was that “every time I’m pouring a glass, I’m thinking of Ian.”

“I’m thinking of him 24/7 anyway, but always in this moment, I can see his face,” said King in response. And those individuals who were never given the opportunity to dance with Ian, perhaps they will be intrigued about it. Perhaps they will inquire about it. There, in the midst of everything, is where you will find his name. Someone who will never be forgotten. Ian is the person you see if you see me.

King said in an interview with Parade earlier in the month of August that the inspiration for her MianU wine came from “this place of trying to find a way to create new memories with Ian.”

When I talk to my friends, I hear that their children are maturing and experiencing new things, but I don’t have any new memories to share. Therefore, rather than living in a sea of misery, I came to the conclusion that this did not necessarily have to be the case,” she said. “It’s just embracing this new relationship with Ian and how to create new memories that are maybe not the way I had imagined memories for the rest of my life with Ian would go.”

On August 29, Caught Stealing will be released in cinemas.
