On the evening of July 19, 2025, just before 10 p.m., emergency services in Warren County, New York, received a distressing call. A Canadian man, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, reported that his young daughter, Melina, had gone missing near Exit 22 on Interstate 87, close to Lake George. Authorities immediately launched a search operation, suspecting a possible abduction.
However, as the investigation unfolded, law enforcement officials began to find inconsistencies in Luciano’s story. The timeline he shared did not align with evidence collected during the inquiry. Investigators later concluded that no abduction had occurred.

Tragically, the search ended in sorrow. Melina’s body was located near Ticonderoga, New York. The New York State Police took over the case, confirming there was no ongoing threat to public safety but emphasizing that their investigation is still active.
Following the discovery, the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) of New York State released a public statement. PBA President James McCartney expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Melina Galanis Frattolin and noted that members of the PBA—including New York State Forest Rangers—had been instrumental in coordinating the search.
Melina’s remains were found by a Department of Environmental Conservation Officer, also affiliated with the PBA, during a detailed grid search of the Ticonderoga area. The statement extended condolences to Melina’s family and acknowledged the emotional strain placed on the officers involved in the search and recovery operation.
