**Tragic Texas Floods: Camp Mystic Counselor Emma Foltz Praised for Heroic Efforts in Saving 14 Lives**
The aftermath of the devastating flooding in Texas is almost impossible to comprehend. With the death toll rising to 81 across six counties, the loss is overwhelming. At Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp, 27 campers and counselors are among the victims. Despite the tragedy, stories of heroism have emerged, one of which centers on Camp Mystic counselor Emma Foltz, who is being celebrated for saving the lives of 14 campers.
The catastrophic flash floods near Kerrville, Texas, caused by the overflowing Guadalupe River, have left widespread destruction. President Donald Trump has issued a major disaster declaration for Kerr County as rescue missions continue in hopes of locating those still missing.
Camp Mystic has confirmed the loss of at least 27 attendees and counselors, with many still unaccounted for. In a statement, the camp expressed its heartbreak and shared that they are in ongoing contact with local authorities as they continue searching for the missing.
“Our hearts are broken alongside the families enduring this unimaginable tragedy,” the camp wrote, asking for continued prayers, respect, and privacy for the affected families. “May the Lord continue to wrap His presence around all of us.”
**A Survivor’s Haunting Account**
Amanda Sue Jones, a survivor of the Texas flood, recounted the harrowing experience in an interview with CNN. She described how the floodwaters rose shockingly fast, turning the peaceful night into chaos within minutes. “It was just immeasurably fast,” she said. “Everything seemed fine, but then, out of nowhere, it was like a wall of water came through.”
Jones explained that they were camping near a tributary of the Guadalupe River, which had been rising slowly overnight but remained within its banks. Once the water breached the grass and flooded the area, the decision was made to evacuate.
Sadly, on Sunday, reports emerged of people attempting to rescue others but losing their lives in the process. Yet amidst the sorrow, there are stories of incredible courage, including that of Emma Foltz.
**Emma Foltz’s Heroic Actions**
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry shared on social media his praise for Emma Foltz, a counselor at Camp Mystic who bravely saved 14 campers. Foltz, who has worked at the camp for three years, was instrumental in evacuating the girls to safety under intense pressure.
Foltz, originally from Alexandria, Louisiana, and currently a senior at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, has been lauded for her quick thinking and heroic actions during the flooding crisis.
Governor Landry wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Please join me in thanking Emma for all her hard work and bravery under immense pressure.”
The post quickly received a flood of comments praising Emma’s bravery. One user wrote, “Thank you for your quick thinking and for saving the children.
