In what some are calling a modern-day miracle, a mother from Kentucky believes her unborn baby was touched by the “hand of God” — and says her ultrasound image is proof.

In April 2022, 33-year-old Amanda Foster posted an ultrasound photo to Facebook, joyfully announcing that her baby boy, Jay, had “healthy kidneys, no cysts, and perfect blood flow.” Most importantly, she shared that he was free of Potter syndrome — a rare and often fatal condition that impacts kidney development and other organs, especially in boys.

A Painful Past

Foster’s fears stemmed from a heartbreaking loss at age 17, when she lost her first son, Xavier, at just 20 weeks due to Potter syndrome. “I thought, ‘If God is going to take my son, He’ll take me too,’” she wrote in a deeply personal post. The loss left her devastated and angry, especially after being told it was unlikely she’d ever have a healthy baby boy due to the condition’s higher prevalence in males.

Years later, Amanda and her husband, Kyle, welcomed two healthy daughters and then, in August 2022, baby Jay — their first healthy son.

A New Pregnancy, A New Challenge

Now expecting another boy, Kyler, Amanda’s current pregnancy has brought new fears. Doctors discovered a serious heart defect — an aortic septum abnormality — early on, placing her in a high-risk category.

Leading up to each scan, Amanda said she would pray on her knees in the doctor’s office, asking God to protect Kyler and give her peace with whatever His plan may be.

A Startling Image

At a recent ultrasound appointment, her daughter Bailey joined her — and was the first to spot something unusual in the scan. “She asked me, ‘Whose hand is that?’” Amanda recalled. In the image, a large hand appears to be cradling Kyler’s head — something Amanda interpreted as divine reassurance. “I broke down in tears over everything God has done for me. I couldn’t imagine life without Him.”

A Growing Miracle

On June 20, Amanda shared an update: at 36 weeks, Kyler is thriving. “Our chunky boy is over 7 pounds — the biggest baby I’ve ever carried!” she wrote. “They even monitored his practice breathing. He’s measuring a week and a half ahead. I can’t wait to hold him.”

For Amanda, the ultrasound isn’t just a photo — it’s a powerful symbol of healing, faith, and hope after unimaginable loss.
