On the first day of the trial for Sean “Diddy” Combs, which was on May 5, prospective jurors were questioned about a number of well-known celebrities.

Following his arrest in September 2024, Combs was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to participate in prostitution. An upcoming trial is scheduled to take place after the charges were brought against him.

During the process of selecting jurors, prospective jurors were questioned about their familiarity with celebrities such as Kanye West, Michael B. Jordan, Mike Myers, and Kid Cudi.

Actress Lauren London, musician and producer Dallas Austin, producer Harve Pierre, choreographer and director Laurieann Gibson, and singers Dawn Richard and Michelle Williams were all named. Additionally, Combs’ ex-girlfriend and singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura was also mentioned.

In the past, Richard was a member of the band Danity Kane, which was featured on the MTV show Making the Band and was signed to Bad Boy Records, which is owned by Combs. The band Destiny’s Child included Williams as a member.

Before the prospective jurors entered the courtroom, Judge Arun Subramanian made a remark that the list of names on this case, which is anticipated to endure for a period of eight weeks, was exceptionally lengthy. He went on to say, “I had the impression that I was reading an appendix from The Lord of the Rings.”

Even if their names have been included, there is no assurance that they will be summoned as witnesses or that they will be mentioned again over the course of the proceedings.

Cassie will testify during the trial under her own name, according to an exclusive article that was published by PEOPLE a month ago.

“She is prepared to testify under her own name,” this was said in an earlier court document that was acquired by PEOPLE. “Victim-1” was the first designation given to her in the allegations that were brought against him. In addition, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Combs in November 2023, alleging that he had sexually and physically assaulted her. This lawsuit brought up a torrent of assault accusations related to Combs.

Combs allegedly assaulted Cassie physically after discovering that she had a short connection with Kid Cudi, according to the allegations that she laid forth in her complaint. At around the same time that he reportedly threatened to blow up the vehicle of the “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper, the star’s vehicle exploded in his driveway.

Combs declined his last opportunity to enter a guilty plea before to the trial, which took place on Thursday, May 1. In order to set the scene for his highly anticipated criminal trial, he expressed to the court that he had rejected a written plea bargain that had been presented by the prosecution.

The first day of Combs’ trial, he described himself as “nervous” in his statement. This individual, who was wearing a blue jacket and had gray hair and a beard, approached Judge Subramanian and requested permission to take a brief restroom break. However, his request was originally refused.

Finally, he apologized before the court by saying, “I’m sorry, your honor, I’m a little nervous today.” Following that, Subramanian allowed him to take a two-minute break in order to relieve himself.

Combs has been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn ever since he was taken into custody.
