The love that Iman has for David Bowie endures even though he is no longer with us.

She would have been celebrating her 33rd wedding anniversary with the English singer-songwriter, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 69 due to liver cancer. The actress and model, who is 69 years old, sent a heartfelt message on what would have been her anniversary.

With the lines “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure,” Iman posted a picture to his Instagram account along with the accompanying caption. She used the hashtags “#BowieForever” and “#ImanDaily” in the description of the picture.

When they were arranged to go on a blind date in 1990, they ended up falling in love with one another. After just two years, the singer from “Heroes” made his proposal to the model when they were standing on the banks of the Seine River. They had a small, intimate wedding in Lausanne, Switzerland, on April 24, 1992, and then a bigger, more public event a few months later. Both ceremonies took place in Switzerland. Their daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones, was born to them in August of the year 2000.

Despite the fact that the music legend has passed away, Iman has managed to keep their love alive by paying heartfelt tributes to her late husband throughout the years. She has honored him as if he were still alive today.

“I still feel married,” Iman had previously said to PEOPLE in November of 2021 at the time. When someone referred to David as my late spouse a few years ago, I responded by saying, “No, he is not my late husband. He is not deceased.” That man is my hubby. “My love continues to live on through my memory.”

In an interview with InStyle from the previous year, she reaffirmed this statement, stating that she often corrects others who refer to Bowie as her “late husband,” and she stated that the reason for this is because “he’s ever-present with me.”

“The reason for this is that he has made an impression on my life,” Iman said. “He was the ideal guy for me, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to experience that level of happiness in my lifetime. I hope that everyone will have the opportunity to experience that moment in their lives.

As stated by Iman in an interview that she gave to Hoda Kotb for the SiriusXM Today Show Radio in the year 2022, she thinks about Bowie “every day and every minute.”

“I have a necklace I’m wearing under here that has his name on it, [a] designer who is a friend of ours called Hedi Slimane sent me this and I’ve worn it since that first week after David passed away,” she said in an interview. “Yeah, I think of him all the time.”

“There are days that are harder than others, but the memories are not all sad of why the person isn’t here,” Iman recalled in an interview with PEOPLE which took place in the year 2021. “The memories are now of how great it was.”

At times, I have to remind myself that I have been alive for the last 26 years. She continued by saying, “So I have that to sustain me.” On the other hand, she claimed that “my love lives” via her “memory.”
