Since the dissolution of her marriage to Jeff Bezos six years ago, MacKenzie Scott has been causing a stir in the world of charity organizations with her unique style of philanthropy that is measured in billions of dollars.
Six years have passed since the novelist and mother of four children finalized their divorce from the founder of Amazon in 2019, which resulted in a settlement of around $36 billion. This year marks the sixth anniversary of the divorce.
A three-year study that was published in February by the Center for Effective Philanthropy found that since then, the 54-year-old Scott, who is currently 68th on Forbes’ list of billionaires, has “transformed” philanthropy with her substantial, unrestricted donations. She has given away more than $19 billion to more than 2,000 organizations because of her generosity.
According to what is documented in the paper, “it could take decades to truly understand the effects that these gifts have had on nonprofit organizations and the sector as a whole.” The reported impact of her donations on recipient organizations continue to be overwhelmingly favorable, despite the fact that she has been donating for a period of five years.
Her breakup with Bezos marked the beginning of a new chapter in Scott’s philanthropic endeavors. Their children are three boys and a girl, and they are all theirs together.
At the time, The New York Times stated that Bezos maintained around 75% of the former couple’s Amazon shares, which equated to approximately 12% of the firm. MacKenzie, on the other hand, kept approximately 4% of the company.
I am really thankful to all of my friends and family members for reaching out to me with words of love and support. It is more significant than you believe. Most importantly, MacKenzie,” Bezos wrote on X in the year 2019.
In a statement that she released on her own platform, MacKenzie disclosed some information on the assets that they had split, including The Washington Post and the rocket business Blue Origin. Her ex-husband retweeted this information.
During that time, she said, “Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to the next phase as co-parents and friends that lies ahead.”
Despite the fact that Scott married Dan Jewett, a former science teacher from Seattle, two years after her divorce, the relationship did not endure. January of 2023 was the month when the couple formalized their divorce.
During this time, her first husband fell in love with Lauren Sanchez, a former news anchor and media figure. In 2019, the couple made the announcement that they were dating, and in May of 2023, they were engaged.
The wedding invitations for Bezos and Sánchez were sent out via the mail one month ago.

In Scott’s life, she has been primarily concerned with the upbringing of her family and maintaining her commitment to making a difference via her charitable activities.
When she made the announcement that she would be giving away $640 million to 361 charitable organizations around the nation, she created news back in the previous year. These organizations were selected from more than 6,000 applications.
The following is an excerpt from a post that Scott made on her Yield Giving website: “Each of these 361 community-led non-profits was elevated by peer organizations and a round-2 evaluation panel for their outstanding work advancing the voices and opportunities of individuals and families of meager or modest means, as well as groups that have met with discrimination and other systemic obstacles.”
In 2019, Scott also became a member of the Giving Pledge, which is a list of billionaires who have committed to donating fifty percent of their wealth to charitable causes.
There is no question in my mind that the act of individuals acting swiftly on the instinct to contribute results in a significant amount of value. According to what she stated in a letter, “no other motivation has more positive ripple effects than the determination to be of service.”
To this day, I will continue to pursue charity with a careful approach. It will need time, effort, and careful attention. As for me, I won’t wait. She said, “And I will continue to do this until the safe is completely empty.”
Her overall net worth is now estimated to be $28.2 billion, according to Forbes magazines.
