Jennifer Wilson is shown on film apparently sitting on the 10-year-old for seven minutes as she called his case worker. This happened after the child ran to a neighbor’s house and begged them to adopt him, claiming that he had been struck in the face at home.

In Porter County, Indiana, a foster mother is facing years in prison following the stunning and terrible loss of a 10-year-old child in her care. She reportedly sat on the child, which led to his loss.

On Friday, Jennifer Wilson, 48, was sentenced to five years in jail, with one year suspended. She was allegedly 340 pounds at the time of her foster son Dakota Levi Stevens’ loss. This information was revealed by WGN in Chicago.

After the kid passsed away on April 27, 2024, Wilson’s first response was to plead not guilty to the allegation of reckless murder. According to court papers, WGN earlier reported that she was detained on July 14 and was released on bail on July 17 following her first plea.

According to the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office, Wilson altered her plea to guilty on October 29. A jury trial was set to take place in March 2025. Wilson was sentenced on Friday instead.

Dakota’s dying moments took place on the lawn of Wilson’s home, where she contacted the 10-year-old’s case worker on April 25, 2024, according to surveillance video taken by neighbors and seen by authorities.

Deputies from the Porter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call to Wilson’s house, where they discovered the little kid in a state of acute distress. He was taken to a hospital in Porter, Indiana, right away, and then he was airlifted again to South Bend. He was removed off life support two days later.

According to True Crime News, the coroner’s office determined that Stevens’ cause of loss was mechanical asphyxia and labeled it a murder.

Stevens ran to a neighbor’s home and requested her to adopt him about 30 minutes before the 911 call, according to court filings. According to reports, he informed this neighbor that his foster mom struck him in the face and would not allow him to phone his case manager.

According to reports, Wilson went to the neighbor’s home to fetch the youngster back. The neighbor informed the authorities that she did not observe any evidence that the youngster had been hurt.

Following this incident, Wilson informed the police that Stevens continued to “act up” and flung himself on the ground, claiming that he was going, according to CBS News. As a result, she sat on the youngster right there on the lawn while she contacted his case worker.

When she asked him whether he was ready to get up, he did not react, according to what she stated. After that, she questioned him, “Are you pretending?” She turned him over, where she saw that his eyelids were pallid. At this moment, Wilson started doing CPR and contacted 911.

Surveillance video reveals that the 340-pound lady remained on top of the 90-pound youngster for around seven minutes, according to court records.

According to one video that investigators saw, Wilson was reportedly already sitting on the boy’s “neck/head area.” In another lengthier video, which lasted 6 minutes and 48 seconds, Wilson was seen lying close to the boy’s buttocks. According to the officials, he did not move at all throughout the whole video.

Dakota Stevens’ Life For almost a year, Dakota Stevens and his sister lived with their aunt. Ana Parrish-Parker talked with WGN following his loss. She said that the children had come to her since their mother suffered with addiction and their father had passed away from a blood infection caused by his drug usage.

She stated of the kid, “In the morning, his eyes popped open and he was ready to go.” “He loved to dig for bugs and play outside with his sister.”

Parrish-Parker said that the Department of Child Services (DCS) made the choice to put both siblings in foster care because they wanted the kids to get more treatment.

Their aunt disagreed with this, arguing that treatment, along with two extra nights of seeing their parents each week and school, was excessive.

She made the argument that they didn’t have the opportunity to be children. “I never got the opportunity to talk to the judge and tell them that I didn’t want the kids to have more therapy after the judge ruled that DCS would remove them from care.”

The news organization also interviewed Hayden Hetzel, a former foster parent of Stevens, who looked after the youngster from 2019 to 2021. Hezel remembered, “He always called me dad.” He would constantly say things like, “Dad, this” and “Dad, that.” Let’s take a stroll.

Hetzel told NBC station WMAQ that he had attempted to adopt Dakota on many occasions and even went so far as to tattoo his initials on his right thigh. He remarked, “He was always loved, and we never once wished he wasn’t.” “We wanted him to be safe, healthy, and loved.”

In a tragic statement on Facebook, Hetzel paid homage to the youngster, writing, “I have & will continue to adore you with every part of my existence ❤️. I hope that throughout the time we spent together, I was able to demonstrate to you what it is to be a decent man. I also hope that you took each day and lived it to the fullest, even if it was cut short.

He also said, “I appreciate all of the laughter, tears, sleepless nights, and countless memories. Your enthusiasm and passion for everything you did and put your mind to left me in awe.”

Heltzel said that Stevens was a fan of Katy Perry and wanted to become a fireman or police officer when he got older.
