Judi Dench is providing an update on her eyesight loss.
The 90-year-old Academy Award winner made an appearance on the most recent edition of Trinny Woodall’s Fearless podcast, where she briefly spoke about her eye problems and revealed that she is no longer able to go out by herself.
She remarked on the program, “There will always be someone with me.” “I have to do it now because I can’t see, and I might bump into something or fall.”
Before I attend to any event, I always feel anxious. I have no clue why… I am not good at being alone, and I wouldn’t be good at it now either. She laughed and continued, “And luckily, I don’t have to do that now because I pretend that I can’t see.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, Dench has macular degeneration in her eyes, which may lead to a quick and irreversible loss of central vision. It is the leading cause of visual loss in those over the age of 50.
In 2012, the actress from Belfast disclosed that she had been diagnosed with macular degeneration when people began to speculate about her vision.

Dench discussed how she had been dealing with her deteriorating vision when she had to read scripts at an event for the London-based Vision Foundation in 2021.
She said, “You manage to get through and get around the things that you find to be very challenging.” “I’ve had to find a different way to learn lines and other things, which is to have my good friends repeat them to me over and over again.”
She went on to say, “So I have to learn through repetition, and I just hope that people won’t notice too much if all the lines are completely hopeless!”
Dench also said that she had a photographic memory, which makes it difficult for her to learn lines. She made this statement during an interview on The Graham Norton Show in February 2023.
The Philomena actress remarked, “I need to find a machine that not only teaches me my lines but also tells me where they appear on the page.” “I used to be able to memorize lines and remember them without any trouble.” I could do the whole play of Twelfth Night at this moment.
