As he is nearing the end of his last term in Congress, Representative Michael Burgess of Texas made the announcement that his oldest daughter, Christine Burgess, has passed away.
The office of the Republican congressman indicated in a message that was published on Facebook on Monday, December 9, that Christine passed away while she was sleeping over the weekend; however, no other information was offered.
“Congressman Burgess appreciates all of the thoughts & prayers & respectfully requests privacy for his family at this difficult time,” according to the official statement.
In the United States House of Representatives, Burgess, who is 73 years old, has been representing the north Dallas region since the year 2003. Prior to his election, he worked as a physician who specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. He is now appointed to the position of chairperson of the Rules Committee.

The unexpected news that Burgess’ daughter had passed away prompted his colleagues legislators to express their condolences to him.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the tragic news about the passing of Congressman Burgess’ beloved daughter, Christine,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson in a statement on X website. “Christine was a beloved member of the Burgess family.” “Our hearts and our prayers go out to our dear friend and colleague and his family at this very difficult time.”
“Jill and I are very grieved to have knowledge of the demise of Christine Burgess, who was the daughter of Michael Burgess. During this very trying time, we ask that you join us in prayer for the whole Burgess family,” said another representative from Texas, Troy Nehls, in a post on X.
In 2024, Burgess made the decision not to compete for reelection, and he is scheduled to complete his duties in the House of Representatives this month, before to the inauguration of a new Congress on January 3.
According to his official website for the House of Representatives, he was recently recognized for his years of service by the House Rules Committee on December 5th, when his photo was placed to the hearing chamber of the United States Capitol Rules Committee.
During the unveiling of the painting, he expressed his gratitude and honor by saying, “I am beyond grateful and honored for the opportunity of a lifetime to serve as the Representative of the 26th Congressional district for the past 22 years since I was elected.” I am overwhelmed with gratitude and admiration for the individuals that surrounded me throughout my time in Congress, as well as for the significant legacy that we have established together for the people of North Texas.
