Since the early 1980s, when he first gained widespread recognition for his performance as Blackie Parrish on “General Hospital,” John Stamos has been a well-known face all over the world. His continued work in television led him to his most famous role as Uncle Jesse on the sitcom “Full House.” This further solidified his reputation as one of the most gorgeous leading men of his day. Over the course of the last several decades, the actor has continued to work in television and even played the same character in the television remake “Fuller House.”

The first season of “Full House” followed the narrative of a widower named Danny Tanner, who was represented by Bob Saget, and his efforts to raise his three kids with the assistance of his brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis, who was portrayed by John Stamos, and their mutual friend, Joey Gladstone, who was portrayed by Dave Coulier. When they portrayed Michelle, the youngest version of Danny’s daughter, in the original series, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were only nine months old at the time.

The remake was released in 2016, and with the exception of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the majority of the original cast returned to reprise their parts in the new version. Fans were understandably let out when they learned that one of the original important characters would not be making a return appearance in the remake, but the program continued on and was still a hit during all four seasons that it was shown.

It was stated in May 2021 by Screen Rant that Stamos may have been to responsible for the twins not being included in “Fuller House,” which generated a debate in the industry. Insider said that Stamos had finally spoken out about these rumors when he was promoting his new true-crime podcast titled “The Grand Scheme: Snatching Sinatra,” and that he thought the Olsen twins’ choice to not return to the series was “blown out of proportion.”

Despite this, Stamos was able to get in touch with the renowned twins at a later time.

According to Screen Rant, the producers of “Fuller House” were unable to persuade Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to appear in the show. The producers of “Fuller House” reportedly explained their character, Michelle’s absence by revealing that the youngest sister was now based in New York City running a fashion empire, which is similar to Mary-Kate and Ashley’s current career as well.

The fact that there were conflicting stories about whether or not the twins would truly return to “Fuller House” in 2016 was the primary source of the controversy that surrounded their absence from the show. Despite the fact that the program allegedly made attempts to get them to feature in the second and third seasons, they did not wind up coming back for the show in the end. It was generally understood that the Olsens had long since retired from acting and had no desire to make a comeback to the profession for the purpose of appearing in the spin-off program. This was the primary reason for their unwillingness to return.

Later on, however, it was reported that Mary-Kate was on the verge of agreeing to make an appearance, and that both Mary-Kate and her sister may have been convinced to participate on the program if the producers had approached them in a different manner. Stamos, who not only starred in but also produced the comedy, recently revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that he should have been in touch with the cast members directly rather than going via their agency while conducting formal negotiations.

Stamos was successful in contacting Mary-Kate, who expressed interest in taking part in the activity. However, Mary-Kate afterwards requested that Stamos also contact Ashley. It was alleged by Screen Rant that Stamos “didn’t seize the opportunity, and everything fell apart.” There is no way to know for certain whether or not the Olsen twins would have been on the program even if the actor had taken more initiative, but many fans pointed the blame at him for not being more aggressive.

Stamos elaborated on the circumstances as follows:

“In hindsight, I should have given them a call and discussed the situation with them, I suppose… We both love one other very much, but we haven’t spoken to each other in a while since I lost their phone number. When I did run into them in New York, it was always a pleasant and heartwarming experience. But when that did not occur, I believe they stated something along the lines of, “Nobody asked us.”

The Olsens explained to him that at the time they did not have any agents. “I sort of had a knee-jerk reaction to that,” remarked Stamos. In addition, he said that “… they just said it wasn’t really in the cards for them at that moment, they hadn’t acted in a long time.”

In an effort to address the situation, Stamos discussed it on his recently released true-crime podcast titled “The Grand Scheme: Snatching Sinatra.”

On the podcast, he described what Mary-Kate and Ashley had accomplished since their time on “Full House” came to an end as “remarkable” and added that he was “proud” of them for their accomplishments.

Stamos said the following in an interview with Insider: “I remember trying to get them on ‘Fuller House,’ and they didn’t want to come in, or there was some miscommunication, or whatever it was — it was blown out of proportion.”

Stamos noted that Lori Loughlin, who portrayed his on-screen wife Becky, informed him that the Olsen twins had received multiple accolades from the Council of Fashion Designers of America around the time that discussions about the remake had began. Loughlin played Stamos’s on-screen wife Becky. Regarding this topic, he said, “That’s the same as winning an Oscar. It is like if one were to say, “Oh okay, that makes sense.”

Stamos proceeded by saying that he had nothing but positive things to say about Mary-Kate and Ashley, and he added, “It’s incredibly encouraging. It seems so bizarre to think of them as the little children they once were. They have evolved into such savvy, influential, and significant women. It’s wonderful to see, but on top of all that, these children were brilliant, influential, and essential.

Since leaving their acting careers behind, the Olsen twins have had a great deal of success in many aspects of their personal life. Both were extremely busy operating their fashion company, The Row, as well as their second clothing business, Elizabeth & James, which is named after their siblings, at the time of their revival. The Row was named after the designers’ siblings. In addition, both twins said in a rare interview with i-D Magazine in June 2021 that despite the fact that they achieved widespread popularity at an early age, they were brought up to be “discreet people.”

There is a good chance that Stamos was accurate when he said that the fans’ outrage to the twins not appearing on “Fuller House” was exaggerated beyond all reasonable bounds.

In the past, it was difficult to understand the Olsen twins’ position over their decision not to participate in the show’s remake. However, Stamos and the ensemble of “Full House” also had to deal with another challenge: the passing of Bob Saget. Saget died suddenly in January of 2022, breaking the hearts of many admirers, as well as the star’s family, friends, and colleagues.

In reference to Mary-Kate and Ashley, Stamos mentioned the positive aspect of the passing of his former co-star and remarked the following:

“The identical twins have relocated to New York. And I have to tell you that one of the few positive things that has resulted from Bob’s (death) Well… Mary-Kate and Ashley were mostly absent from our observances. I mean, we did keep in contact with one another here and there, but Bob really did. And they were such an amazing group. You could overhear someone saying things like, “Oh, they detested their childhood” or “They detested being on the show or whatever.” After I finished filming Fuller House, they were not interested in having me return. And for a little moment, I was furious, and some of that came out.”

The Olsens paid Stamos a visit at his house, gave him some food, and said something to the effect of, “We enjoyed our youth. We cherished our time spent with you. Stamos referred to it as a “really nice” gesture, and he said that the two of them “stayed very close.”
