Marco Angulo, a midfielder with Liga Deportiva Universitaria Quito (LDU Quito), fell suddenly on Monday evening, November 11, at the age of 22. Since Angulo had been on loan from FC Cincinnati to LDU Quito until the 31st of December, many news sites have disclosed the circumstances behind his passing. In addition, the football club, via a series of messages that were posted on X, conveyed their sorrow and sympathies to the family.
Reports indicate that Angulo passed away after a long and courageous battle against the injuries he acquired in a vehicle accident that took place in Ecuador on October 7 at 4:30 in the morning. Of the three people who survived the collision on the Rumiñahui highway, he was one of them.
Angulo, along with four other individuals, had been traveling in a Ford Explorer that was registered in the name of his sister during the journey. The Ecuadorian news site El Universo said that the driver of the car was responsible for the collision with a metal structure weighing fifty tons. The accident occurred because the driver had disregarded traffic signs that indicated that work was taking place on the roadway. The car was moved five meters away from its original position after the incident.

FC Cincinnati made the following statement at the time: “He is still being cared for by medical professionals in Quito, and FC Cincinnati is working to obtain additional information and provide any support that we can for Marco.” We are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers as we hope for his speedy recovery.
Additionally, the football club offered their sympathies to the families of those individuals who did not survive the vehicle accident and their best wishes to those individuals who did survive the automobile accident.
Sadly, the 22-year-old man passed away 35 days after the collision that took place. The tragic news is that Angulo, who is left by his wife and little kid, played his last match for LDU Quito on October 6, the day before the vehicle tragedy claimed his life.

Our hearts are filled with profound sorrow at the news of the passing of Marco, who was a husband and father, a brother and son, a friend, and a teammate. In a letter that was published on Tuesday, November 12, FC Cincinnati described him as “a joyful and kind young man who lit up every room which he entered.”
Another statement made by the group was as follows: “Our entire club is in mourning over this tragedy, and we are thinking of and praying for his family.” He was a treasured part of the FC Cincinnati family, and his absence will be deeply felt by all of us.
Following in the footsteps of FC Cincinnati, LDU Quito turned to Instagram to write an homage to Angulo. He did it in the same way that FC Cincinnati did. They conveyed their sorrow at the huge loss and sent their “heartfelt condolences” to his loved ones, along with a black-and-white photograph of the athlete who had passed away.
It is impossible to make up for the sorrow that his leaving has caused, and it will leave an indelible impression on our hearts. The group came to the conclusion that “may he rest in peace 🕊️.” It was initially written in Spanish when they made their declaration.

In addition to their unwavering commitment, LDU Quito published a touching Instagram montage that paid tribute to Angulo’s professional vocation and lasting impact.
As the video started, it showed the players of the club standing next to one other on the turf of a stadium while carrying a giant banner that said “Va Por Ti Marco Angulo,” which is a phrase that roughly translates to “It’s for you, Marco Angulo.”

A photograph of Angulo with a broad smile was included into the initial name of the individual. Following then, the video switches to significant experiences that Angulo experienced when he was a member of the football team.
These kinds of moments portrayed intense gaming, in which the late star was seen with a focused expression on his face as he focused on his bouts.
The video also showed Angulo’s lighthearted moments with his teammates, including when they were goofing about on the field and in the gym where they were practicing.

Followers were able to get a peek of the entire life that Angulo lived via the commemorative film that was released by LDU Quito. The movie also emphasized how brilliant of a player he was.
Dear buddy, you will be in our thoughts and hearts forever. The team captioned the photo with the “Fly high, Marco. 🕊️” The original text of the caption was written in Spanish, and it has been translated into English in a very rough rendition.
Angulo was loaned to LDU Quito earlier this year (2024), and the deal contained the option for the club to purchase him permanently. Additionally, the trade cleared up a position on the roster for the organization’s U22 Initiative program.

The young man, who was then 21 years old and was originally from Esmeraldas, was planning to make his comeback to the Ecuadorian Liga Pro, which is the football league in which he had played for the first three seasons of his career while playing for the side Independiente del Valle.

Prior to the loan, FC Cincinnati had completed the acquisition of Angulo from Independiente del Valle in December 2022. During his time with Independiente del Valle, he had contributed two assists and made 24 appearances during the regular season during the 2023 Supporters’ Shield-winning campaign for the franchise.
During the Major League Soccer Cup Playoffs, Angulo participated in seven different Leagues Cup and U.S. Open Cup competitions, and he was able to provide one Cup assist. In addition, the veteran football player made two appearances as a substitute during the playoff stages.
In addition to Angulo, the football community and the squad Independiente Juniors are grieving the loss of Roberto Carlos Cabezas Simisterra, a defender for Independiente Juniors. Cabezas Simisterra had been traveling in the same vehicle that Angulo had been traveling in. A similar fate befell Simisterra, who, like Angulo, was taken from this world by the accident.
“We extend our condolences to all of his family and friends, and we stand in solidarity with everyone affected by this tragedy,” the squad stated in a message on Instagram, which has been translated into the English language.
At this time, we would also want to offer our deepest sympathies to the family members and friends who are grieving the death of both Angulo and Simisterra, and we hope that they can find some measure of healing amongst their sorrow.
