“An old bread bin from the Soviet Union had been left in the house by the parents of my friend.” Additionally, they kept their tools in the shed, which was also where they stored it. The decision was made to clean out the shed, and we reached an agreement to get rid of the bread container in order to make more room.

My request to get it was granted, and it turned out to be an incredible experience. My family had a container that was quite similar to this one when I was a kid, however it just had one compartment and a blue top.

My buddy gave it to me, and I couldn’t wait to get it back in working order as soon as I got it. There was a substantial amount of labor that lay ahead of me, and as I started cleaning it, I started to have doubts about my abilities to restore it before I finished.

First, I used an air compressor to blow out all of the dust and dirt that was within the bread bin. After that, I wiped it down with water that was taken from a bucket. In the course of carrying out these processes, the magnitude of the work that was necessary became clear. The rusted bottom was covered in numerous coats of paint, which was applied in layers.

The paint had to be removed, so I did that. I went out and purchased a paint remover specifically for this reason, and I cleaned the bread container in various stages.

After that, I poured water that was boiling over it. Furthermore, in order to eliminate any germs that could have been there, I sprayed it with “Shumavit,” cleaned it with sandpaper, rinsed it with detergent, and applied a rust-proofing agent.

When I was done with the final wash, I utilized a Karcher vehicle washer. I was able to remove all of the minute particles that had adhered to it by using a strong stream of water throughout the operation.

Due to the fact that there were a great deal of various noises, our neighbor kept looking over the fence during the whole ordeal.

It was then that I began painting it.

During the painting process, I selected white spray paint and applied it in many layers. Because of all of my efforts, the bread bin was able to be cleaned and seemed to be brand new.

In order to add brown text, I used a stencil and painting it with acrylic paint.

Following that, I focused on the handles.

In order to accommodate the projecting handles on the lids, my husband and I carved niches into the inside of the wooden planks that contained them. The new handles were fastened to the new handles with screws after we drilled holes.

Following the discovery of her remodeled bread container, my buddy inquired as to whether or not I might return it to her.

That is just what I did, but in exchange, I requested that she locate another old bread bin for me.

It seems like a project that will be rewarding!
