Maria Shriver is a multi-talented individual who wears several hats. She has worked as a journalist, an author, the creator of a charitable organization called The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, and she was also the First Lady of the State of California. It is well known that Shriver is a member of the Kennedy family, which is a renowned political family in the United States. The Kennedy family has a long history of success in commerce, entertainment, and public service.
The fact that Shriver’s father was active in politics served as inspiration for her to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. In the presidential election that took place in 1972, the Democratic Party chose him to represent their party as their candidate for vice president. During the time when Shriver was helping out with her father’s campaign for the vice presidential run, she offered her services, and on one of their trips, she was assigned to ride in the press section of the aircraft. Her time spent working and interacting with members of the press corps lay the groundwork for her future career in journalism. Soon after, she began her career in journalism by working for KYW-TV in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she co-anchored The CBS Morning News for a short period of time.
Shriver’s career advanced, and in 1986 she began working for NBC, where she had a variety of positions during the course of her tenure there. As a result of her husband Arnold Schwarzenegger’s campaign in the 2003 California governor recall election, she took a leave of absence from her job in August of that year. This leave was unpaid. Shriver finally quit her employment in 2004, alleging a conflict of interest between her journalistic work and her role as the First Lady of California due to the fact that she had returned to her responsibilities in November of that year after taking a leave of absence.
Shriver is a wonderful mother to her four children, Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher, in addition to being a formidable competitor in the field in which she is employed. Shriver, who has a lot of experience as a mother, has successfully transitioned into the position of a mother-in-law now that her daughter Katherine is married to the actor Chris Pratt. During the episode aired on July 12, 2023 of “Today with Hoda & Jenna,” Shriver discussed the role of a mother-in-law from her perspective.
After a marriage that lasted for 25 years, Shriver and Schwarzenneger divorced in 2001 and went their own ways. The actor was requested to make an appearance at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Tennis Tournament in 1977, and that’s when he and his future wife first crossed paths. At the gathering, many members of the Kennedy family were there, one of them was Shriver’s mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. It was Shriver’s mother who first put Schwarzenegger in contact with her daughter. The two sweethearts were romantically involved not long after their first encounter and wed on April 26, 1986.
They have four children as a couple, and their names are Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher. Every one of Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s children was born in the city of Los Angeles, located in the state of California. However, because of their natural-born status as well as the Austrian heritage of their father, they were granted dual citizenship in Austria and the United States. In addition to this, given that their mother comes from the Kennedy family, each of her children is a part of the Kennedy family tree. This provides them with a significant legacy to uphold.
The marriage between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver was a happy one until 2011, when Shriver discovered that her husband had been having an affair with another woman. It was discovered that Schwarzenegger had an affair with the couple’s housekeeper of more than 20 years, Mildred Patricia Baena, with whom he had a son named Joseph Baena. The encounter resulted in the birth of Baena. Worse still, nine.com.au said that Joseph had been born only a few short days before Christopher, who is Shriver and Schwarzenegger’s fourth child. Christopher was born on April 17.
Both the shock of the affair and the extraordinarily public nature of the divorce took a toll on Schwarzenegger and Shriver. The divorce was exceedingly public. Nevertheless, despite the fact that they were no longer together, the exes continued to share parental responsibilities for their children. After living apart for ten years, the couple finally divorced on December 29, 2021, putting an end to their lengthy legal battle.
On the edition of “Today with Hoda & Jenna” that aired on July 12, 2023, Shriver appeared as a special guest anchor. The former First Lady of California joined the program hosts during their “Social Dilemmas” section, which is the part of the show in which viewers ask for help on their social problems.
Because of her talent for finding solutions to difficult situations, the presenters of the show, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, asked Maria Shriver to provide advice to fans who were asking for help in resolving their difficulties throughout the program.
The first predicament had Kotb reading a letter sent by a lady who wanted guidance on how to deal with her outspoken mother-in-law. She read that “she’s constantly zinging me over my parenting style,” and she understood what it meant. “How can I communicate to her that I value her assistance, but that I would also value it if she would refrain from making comments?”
In light of the fact that Shriver is a mother-in-law, her answer to the issue was brief and straightforward. She discussed the steps that she takes to stay out of trouble as a mother-in-law.
Shriver explained, “I’m a mother-in-law,” to the audience. Therefore, I bite my tongue since I don’t want such trouble.
“But what if nobody is disciplining the youngster when they are misbehaving or when they are talking impolite things? Would you say anything?” Kotb pursued the matter further.
Shriver said, “I really try my best to keep my mouth shut.”
Shriver noted the unusual circumstances surrounding the woman’s situation and suggested that she discuss the matter with her mother-in-law. In her words:
“If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be able to pull it off… But the fact that you criticize me sometimes rubs me the wrong way. I haven’t quite figured out how to proceed yet. I sincerely appreciate the support that you provide me.”
Shriver counseled against it and hinted that it may lead to some type of alienation when Bush Hager mentioned that the woman’s husband could step in. Bush Hager said that the woman’s husband could step in.
It should not come as a surprise that Shriver could provide such forthright guidance. She has made it clear that she stands for her daughter’s husband, Pratt, over the years. For example, on June 8, 2023, Shriver sent a heartfelt remark on Pratt’s Instagram post that celebrated the anniversary of his marriage to Katherine, Shriver’s daughter. Pratt and Katherine had been married for one year.
