On their date night, a lady from Philadelphia surprised her husband with something that was more than just a pleasant pastime.

2016, was the year that Christina Kelley and her husband, Ryan, first met. After first meeting one other online, the two engaged in conversation for a period of time before meeting in person and realizing that they had “this crazy chemistry.”

Following their wedding in October 2022, the couple made the decision to take a year off to focus on themselves before beginning the process of starting a family. After a period of nine months, Christina made the discovery that their dream was finally coming true.

“I had this really convincing dream that I was carrying a child. I found out that I was pregnant on Monday by taking a pregnancy test. It was because I wanted to kind of confirm it that I refrained from saying anything just yet. The next day, I did a further test that was more formal, which verified it,” she says in an interview with PEOPLE.

Before making the decision to decide to take an idea that she and her husband had previously discussed and modify it in order to share this unique occasion, the joyful woman who was about to become a mother chose to remain silent and only notify her two childhood closest friends.

“Before this year, we had already been discussing the possibility of taking photos of each other since it was a popular trend among couples earlier in the year. They were hilarious, and we were constantly texting them to one another whenever we could. That was the first thing that sprang to me when I was trying to figure out how to surprise him,” Christina explains.

That day, I sent him a text message that said something along the lines of, “I’m going to go to the store after work to pick up the paint supplies and canvases.” It would be best if we did this tonight. In response, he said, “All right, that sounds good.” That evening, I decided to make it happen.”

During the approximately three hours that the pair spent sitting there painting and joking, Ryan was completely oblivious to the fact that he would not be able to walk away from the experience with a portrait. Christina, on the other hand, painted the painting with the words “Baby Kelley, Est. 2025.”

“I had to kind of make up colors to match colors of what he was wearing and stuff, so he thought I was actually painting him,” she said with laughter. “I had to make up details as I went along because he was being a perfectionist about mine.”
A few of hours after they had begun, the pair completed their work. Ryan acknowledges that he was a little perplexed when they initially saw the paintings to one another for the first time.

“I didn’t realize this until I watched the video back myself afterward, but you can tell by my facial expression that I went through it,” he remarks with a smile on his face.

“I was under the impression that she was trying to make me angry, but she just did not paint me. As a result, I moved from being upset to being happy since I had just spent all of this time painting her in order to surprise her. In the beginning, I didn’t give much mind to what her artwork was saying, so I had the impression that it was simply a “Gotcha.”

He goes on to say, After that, I became aware of what it was saying, and I was taken aback by it. Subsequently, it gave rise to feelings of joy and exhilaration.
Over the course of two months, Christina and Ryan did not share the footage of the momentous occasion with anybody else.

“We announced it to our close family and friends first, and we didn’t want to announce too early,” according to her explanation.

He continues by saying, “It was difficult to keep a secret, though.” “It’s one of those things that you want to tell everyone about as soon as you find out about it.”

At the point in time when it was time to inform the grandparents-to-be, the couple made the decision to “continue the surprise factor.”
Scratch-offs were given to each of them so that we could tell them. Everyone was bursting with excitement. A great number of tears were shed. “We had a wonderful time,” the soon-to-be parents shared with one another.

After the information was shared with people who were closest to them, the couple went online to share their great news with their friends and family. They uploaded their video on TikTok not long after that they did so.
“I don’t believe any of us anticipated that the video would get such a large level of response. Throughout it all, it has been quite upbeat and exhilarating. Being able to see all of the many responses has been incredible. The fact that we were able to publish it and experience that moment is something that I am grateful for,” adds Christina.

The expectant mother reports that she is doing “great” as her pregnancy continues to develop.

In the first trimester of my pregnancy, I was a sleepy gal who was also quite exhausted and queasy. For the duration of the second trimester, everything has been going swimmingly. I am in the process of regaining my energy and am getting back into the habit of working out. She adds, “I’m spending as much time as I can enjoying myself before I get too big and the physical things start to become difficult.”

At the end of this year, or at the beginning of the next year, depending on what destiny has in store for them, the couple will officially become parents to a young boy.
I am due on December 30. A gender reveal cake cutting was held in a private setting, with just the two of us present,” Christina elaborates. “It’s a boy, which is exactly what we intended for our first child,” she said. Our child will either be the last member of the Alpha generation or one of the first births of the Beta generation. It’s a really exciting scenario.”
