In a recent trip, a lady asked a couple to stop changing their baby’s diaper in the middle; it became a fight. Seeing no other choice, the couple was clearly outraged by the suggestion. Parental responsibility and passenger comfort on cramped airplanes are hot topics.

Woman recounted events.

I sat behind a couple with a baby for many hours on a flight today. Since I feel sick flying, I tried to sleep. This didn’t happen because the baby cried, but flights are dangerous and stressful for newborns, so no one could help.

The couple changing their baby’s nasty #2 diaper in the midst of their chairs on the mom’s meal tray bothered me. At the rear of the aircraft, I verified baby changing tables in the restrooms. I didn’t say anything the first time, but two hours later I heard them put inside the diaper bag. I requested they use the aircraft restroom instead of exposing everyone to the scent.

The mom vented that I didn’t realize how difficult traveling with a baby is, which is true—I don’t have kids. Both parents seemed quite unhappy when the flight attendant at the rear of the aircraft agreed with me and told them to only use the restrooms to change their baby. A few minutes later, the captain announced that all diaper changes had to be done in the bathrooms.

Were I wrong to urge them to stop changing their infant in the middle of the aircraft and alert the flight crew?

Commenters supported her.
