Considering that their Boeing aircraft looks to be unable to send them back to Earth, it is possible that two astronauts who have been stuck in space for more than sixty days may have to continue circling the Earth until the beginning of 2025.
According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams may need a ship from a competing business, which is SpaceX, in order to be retrieved from the International Space Station.
The two individuals used a Boeing Starline spacecraft to go to the International Space Station (ISS) in June; however, the first journey was a failure due to helium leaks and thruster malfunctions, which prevented them from returning the spaceship to Earth Earth.
In spite of the fact that Butch and Suni were only scheduled to stay on the International Space Station for a week, it is becoming more plausible that they will remain there until some point in the next year.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has indicated that the astronauts may be required to redeploy on the SpaceX Dragon Crew-9 mission. The spaceship is scheduled to launch in September, and it would not be able to bring Butch and Suni back by February.
This new strategy has not yet been finalized; there are many other parties engaged in this situation, and it would be a tremendous humiliation for Boeing if a crew from Boeing were to return from a mission that was carried out by SpaceX.
For the time being, Butch and Suni continue to be stationed on the International Space Station, where they assist other astronauts with various chores.
However, the time is running out since they are putting additional demand on the resources of the International Space Station.
