It was at the age of 98 that Dick Van Dyke made history by being the oldest actor to ever receive a Daytime Emmy Award for his performance in the television show ‘Days of Our Lives.’
Just recently, Dick Van Dyke made history by being the oldest actor to ever receive a Daytime Emmy Award. He accomplished this feat at the age of 98. Is he the key to living a long life? Put on some sweat.
Before receiving a winged lady trophy in the category of Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for his portrayal as Mystery Man/Timothy Robicheaux on Days of Our Lives, the iconic actor gave an exclusive interview to Deidre Behar of Entertainment Tonight. The news of Van Dyke’s historic nomination came as a complete surprise to him once he received it from Behar.
“Is it true that I am the oldest? His statement was, “I had no idea that I was the oldest.” “I’ll pay the price. Honestly, I believe that I am the last member of my generation. I’m 98 years old. Most of my marbles are in my possession. I am no longer able to recall what I had for breakfast.
Van Dyke has been a fixture in Hollywood and in the hearts of all people for close to seven decades. He has captivated viewers with films such as The Dick Van Dyke Show, Diagnosis Murder, Bye Bye Birdie, and, of course, Mary Poppins. His accomplishments have been passed down through the centuries, but you shouldn’t anticipate him to slack down any time soon. This is especially true considering that he continues to go to the gym three times a week up to this day.
“Yes, I do,” she said. As someone who has lived for such a long time, I genuinely do,” he remarked. Also, I strongly suggest that everyone do it. I use it as my weapon of choice.”
After taking the stage to collect his Daytime Emmy award on Friday night at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles, California, Van Dyke was met with a resounding round of applause from members of the audience.
“I do not see this happening. “I have the impression that I am a spy from a nighttime television show,” he said onstage. In the annals of history, I am the oldest nominee. It’s hard for me to belive. For the whole of my life, I have been playing the role of an elderly man. Taking care of myself would have been something I would have done if I had known I would live this long.

Van Dyke also expressed his gratitude to the actors of Days of Our Lives for welcoming him into their tight-knit family with open arms.
In his words, “You guys treated me so nicely,” he remarked. “I had such a wonderful time.”
Certainly, Van Dyke is associated with Hollywood, and the fact that he has achieved this status without ever having to put in a single day of labor is a wonder. Everything is a game and a great time for him.
ET is told by him that “it is not work, it is play.” Actors are very blessed. I’ve had a wonderful experience all around.”
It is true that Van Dyke is conscious of the fact that he is just one letter away from achieving EGOT rank. He is not able to win that much desired Oscar, and he responded with a resounding “Yeah! Whenever he was asked whether he would welcome the chance to win an Academy Award, he responded by saying, “Give me a shot at it.”
In a manner that is characteristic of Van Dyke, he continued by saying, “I hope it’s not posthumous.”
