Oprah Winfrey is paying tribute to her brother Jeffrey Lee, who passed away recently.
amid the Oprah Daily broadcast on Tuesday, June 4, the veteran talk show host, who is 70 years old, offered a message in celebration of Pride Month. In the message, she discussed her brother, who passed away from AIDS at the age of 29 amid the height of the HIV epidemic in the United States.
It has been thirty-five years since my younger brother Jeffrey Lee passed away due to the effects of AIDS, Winfrey remarked. “He had reached the age of 29. The year was 1989 and the world was an extraordinarily terrible place, not only for persons suffering from AIDS, but also for LGBTQ people in general.”
I frequently believe that if dad had lived, he would be so shocked at how much the world has changed, that there is truly a Pride Month and gay marriage. She went on to say that she often thinks this.
After that, Winfrey proceeded by saying, “How different his life might have been had he lived during these kinds of times.” “In a world that did not try to shame him for his sexuality but instead saw and appreciated him for who he was,” the speaker said.

The media magnate continued by stating that she is of the opinion that everyone “has the right to love.” She went on to state that she wishes people are “living a life that feels authentic to you,” and that she hopes that one has the “support around to do so.”
“I wish for you the continued freedom to rise to your truest highest expression of yourself as a human being,” Winfrey said on the Instagram account that she uses for the Oprah Daily program.
This statement was sent by Winfrey after she paid tribute to her late brother at the 35th GLAAD Media Awards, which took place in March. GLAAD made the announcement before to the presentation that she was the recipient of the Vanguard Award because of her assistance in “promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues.”
During the time when she was receiving the distinction, she said, “At the time, I was unaware of how deeply my brother internalized the shame he felt about being gay.” That he could have lived to see these emancipated times and be here with me tonight is something that I wish he could have done.
Additionally, she said that Jeffrey was the source of inspiration for The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired from September 1986 to May 2011 and lasted for two decades.
“All the years of the Oprah show for me were about sharing stories that actually helped people be more of their authentic selves and I know that that is the truest form of what it means to be free,” Winfrey told the audience. “In order to have personal liberty. that you are able to be who you are in every way. to be able to express oneself in the most authentic way possible as a human being.
