At the Republican National Convention that will take place in Milwaukee in 2024, Barron Trump will no longer be functioning as a delegate representative.

Following his selection as an at-large delegate to represent Florida at the event that will take place in July, the son of Donald Trump, who is 18 years old, has decided not to take part in the convention.

According to a statement sent by the Office of Melania Trump to PEOPLE on Friday, May 10, “While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” the statement said.

It would have been Barron’s most prominent political job to date if he had been given the opportunity.

Barron has maintained a relatively quiet profile ever since President Joe Biden entered office in January 2021. This is despite the fact that the adolescent, who is scheduled to graduate from Oxbridge Academy, a prestigious high school located in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, May 17, may have observed many of his father’s previous responsibilities in the Oval Office.

Since moving out of Washington, District of Columbia, the senior in high school has been residing in Florida with his mother Melania, who is 54 years old.

In an interview with a radio station in Philadelphia, the former president, who is 77 years old, talked warmly about his youngest son’s passion for politics only a few hours before the high school senior passed up the opportunity to be a delegate. Trump has stated that Barron, who was just ten years old when he won the presidential election in 2016, sometimes provides him with guidance.

It is a little bit humorous. The statement was made by Trump during an interview on Kayal and Company on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT. “He will tell me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do,'” Trump stated the statement.

“He’s a little on the tall side, I will tell you, he’s a tall one, but he is a good-looking guy,” Trump remarked of Barron, who stands at a height of 6 feet 7 inches. “And he’s really been a great student.”

Despite the fact that Melania’s statement on Friday about “prior commitments” was short, Trump said in his interview that Barron will be “going to college.”

Additionally, he said that “a lot of these choices of colleges are changing because you see what’s going on in the last month,” most likely alluding to demonstrations in support of Palestinians that have made it difficult for students to attend courses on some campuses.

Over thirty-four felony charges of falsifying corporate documents are being brought against Trump, who is now on trial in Manhattan.

Additionally, his elder children, Don Jr., Eric, and Tiffany, as well as Don Jr.’s fiancee, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Tiffany’s husband, Michael Boulos, have been chosen to represent Florida at the convention. They will be known as delegates.

In order to cast their ballots in favor of Trump and finally secure his position as the Republican presidential contender for the year 2024, the delegates will be present at the Republican National Convention, which will take place in Milwaukee in the month of July.
