Anna Paquin said that the last two years have been “difficult” for her since she has been battling with health difficulties that have not been acknowledged, which have caused her to have mobility challenges.

Using a cane for support, the actress, who is 41 years old, walked the red carpet with her husband, Stephen Moyer, at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City on Wednesday, April 3, for their most recent film, A Bit of Light.

“It hasn’t been easy,” the celebrity, who was reared in New Zealand, says to PEOPLE of the fact that she cannot walk without the assistance of a cane and that she has some challenges with her speech. The actress is expected to make a complete recovery, according to a source who has clarified this information.

Even if there have been problems, Paquin believes that she has been really lucky to be able to pursue what she does.

She was just 11 years old when she received an Academy Award for her performance in the film The Piano. “My first love was independent filmmaking,” recalls Paquin. “That was the pathway that led me to the film business. What I was doing was working with folks who were passionate about telling stories and expressing them in a way that was honest and trustworthy.

Paquin is thankful to have the support of her husband Moyer, who is 54 years old and directed her in the independent drama that is based on a theatrical play. Paquin is now on the path to recovery.

“He’s my favorite person to play with,” she says of Moyer, adding that she wouldn’t be working with him if she didn’t believe he was an outstanding director. “He will be my favorite person to play with.”
“I’m not sentimental when it comes to work,” she continues with a giggle. “I’m professional.”

As the protagonist of A Bit of Light, Paquin plays the role of an alcoholic mother who loses custody of her children and is forced to pick up the pieces of her damaged life while simultaneously making peace with her past.

She claims that she did not identify with the tale of her character Ella, who was an alcoholic; yet, as a mother, she knew that being a parent can be a complicated experience, and that there is a tendency for women to forget that they are fully developed individuals once they become moms.

“Not everyone ends up having the journey with motherhood that they have hoped or had planned,” according to Paquin. “We’re all flawed and imperfect, and Ella is kind of on some level repeating some sort of familial patterns as far as stuffing feelings down.”

She continues by saying, “It’s very relatable because there’s so many ways that people can get in their own way, or sort of learn to cope with trauma,” according to the researcher.

On Friday, April 5, A Bit of Light will be released in cinemas.
