Hanbury’s name has been brought back into the spotlight as a result of the monologue that Stephen Colbert delivered on ‘The Late Show.’
In addition to the continued recuperation of Kate Middleton from the abdominal surgery she had in January and the issue surrounding her use of Photoshop, which has generated a great deal of conjecture, there is now another topic that is dominating the conversation, and it involves Prince William and Rose Hanbury, who was one of Kate’s previous close friends.
As a result of Stephen Colbert devoting almost three minutes of his monologue on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show to discussing the accusations, Hanbury’s name and the rumors of an alleged romance with William have been brought back into the spotlight. Colbert made the statement in a tongue-in-cheek manner, stating that he had some disturbing information on the royal family of England.
As we were discussing this episode the day before, the kingdom has been in a state of absolute disarray due to the apparent absence of Kate Middleton. On the other hand, online sleuths are speculating that Kate’s disappearance may be connected to the fact that her husband, William, who is destined to become the king of England, is having an affair, as Colbert deadpanned.
Later on, he continued by saying, “So, I believe that we are all aware of who the claimed other lady is — repeat it with me — The Marchioness of Cholmondeley… now, there have been rumors of an affair between William and [Hanbury] since the year 2019. According to the newspapers that were published at the time, when Kate was meant to question him about it, he shrugged it off and said there was nothing to it. Whenever your wife accuses you of infidelity, a nice answer is to laugh it off and say “Haha.”
After that, Colbert broke the news that Hanbury was married to David Rocksavage, who was one of William’s closest pals. After making a joke about David’s surname, the speaker said, “Really? Rocksavage, are you? Before taking a drink of tea, Colbert teased the guest on the program by saying, “That sounds less like a British noble and more like a musician from The Flintstones.”
However, as a result of that particular portion, Colbert and Hanbury became popular on X (which was originally known as Twitter), which led many people to inquire more about Hanbury and her relationship with the royal family.
Rose, who is now 39 years old, was a model in the past. Sarah Rose Cholmondeley, Marchioness of Cholmondeley is the formal title by which she is known. In addition to their daughter, Lady Iris Marina Aline Cholmondeley, who is eight years old, she and her husband, David, 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, have three children: twins named Alexander Hugh George Cholmondeley, Earl of Rocksavage, who are 15 years old; Lord Oliver Timothy George Cholmondeley, who is also 15 years old; and their daughter.
In the past, Rose worked as a researcher for Michael Andrew Gove, who is now serving as the Secretary of State for Leveling Up, Housing, and Communities. Gove is a member of Parliament. The Independent reports that Rose is now in charge of managing the estate of her husband.
It was in Italy in 2003 that the pair first met, and six years later, they were engaged. In the year 2009, they exchanged their vows in a private ceremony that took place in Chelsea Town Hall in London.
With a Prolonged Royal Connection
Rose’s family is supposed to have a lengthy association with the royal family of the United Kingdom, according to some reports. It has been said that her grandmother, Lady Elizabeth Lambart, was one of the bridesmaids for Queen Elizabeth II at the time of her marriage to Phillip Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh, in the year 1947.
Moving ahead in time to the present day, Lord Oliver, Rose’s son, was one of the four Pages of Honour who attended the coronation ceremony for King Charles. As the procession made its way through the Nave of Westminster Abbey, the Pages were a contributing element. In addition to His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales, Master Nicholas Barclay, and Master Ralph Tollemache, the King’s Pages of Honor also included other notable individuals.
Rose and David were previously neighbors of William and Kate, who were also neighbors. In a 2023 interview with English house, Rose was asked to describe her house, despite the fact that she only conducts interviews on a very seldom basis.
“It’s a Palladian house built in the 1720s for Britain’s first prime minister, Sir Robert Walpole, who employed the very best architects, decorators and designers of the day,” she said to reporters. “The interiors were created by William Kent, and the architect was described as being Colen Campbell. It is a monument to the great care that the home has gotten from its prior residents and David’s family that the house is still very much the same as it was when it was first built.
After moving into the enormous house for the first time in 2009, Rose said that she required some time to get used to it.
“Moving anywhere feels awkward at first, and it took me a while to adjust and feel at home,” she said to me. Rumors of the Relationship
During the month of April 2019, allegations of an affair between the future King of England and Rose were first brought to light. The story was first generated by a tabloid in the United Kingdom, which took place after an apparent disagreement between Rose and Kate. In addition, Kate was seen giving William’s personal digital assistant (PDA) the cold shoulder on a trip around that time, which only served to add gasoline to the flames surrounding the situation.
Rose was there for the coronation of King Charles earlier in May of last year, but there were no photographs of her with Kate, who had married William in a lavish ceremony in April of 2011. This did not help the situation any more.
The royal family never responded to the claim, and royal analyst Omid Scobie made a passing reference to the accusation in his book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival. However, Scobie told ET in November that he was not believing the tale either.
“Unfortunately, if a rumor’s left to kind of do its own thing it can run 20 laps around the world before you even think about what, how you want to kind of address it,” the author and royal expert told the television network ET. “They never addressed it, so those rumors will never go away even though there’s no truth to suggest that they are true.”
The simple mention of the rumor turned into a touchy matter for the expert on royal affairs.
“I was very careful in the book to really focus on this, as the allegations against William, Kate’s and their fallout with Rose Hanbury,” he said to reporters. “I thought it was really important, even if it is just a rumor, because there are so many things that one cannot go into for legal reasons. However, I thought it was really important.” Aside from that, I honestly don’t see any evidence that there is more to this than simply a rumor, you know.
A Statement from the Palace
Scobie is of the opinion that the palace made an indirect response to the notion that Rose and William were involved in an affair by giving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as sacrificial lambs in the midst of their disagreement with the palace.
“I thought it was really interesting to analyze how the palace dealt with that,” the author adds in reference to the fact that journalists from the United Kingdom were searching for any scrap of proof that would show that the extramarital affair was genuine. “The worst-case scenarios that they anticipated would occur, you know, simply those stories alone were going to have enough influence, particularly in a bad way, on William’s image. We continue to see them [the rumors] trending on Twitter on a daily basis… I believe that this is something that is really detrimental for William. The fact that there was a sort of readiness to throw Harry under the bus in order to make these things vanish is maybe much more concerning than it already seems to be.
