The program, which had been ranked among the top 10 most popular shows on Netflix for a period of five weeks, was canceled on Tuesday.
“Heartbroken” is how Michelle Yeoh describes her feelings on the decision by Netflix to terminate The Brothers Sun.
The Oscar-winning actress, who is 61 years old, expressed her dissatisfaction with the sudden and inexplicable discontinuation of the series during the course of an Instagram post that she published on Tuesday. The series had just made its debut in January. The first publication to report the news was Deadline.
“Heartbroken… and finding it so difficult to comprehend the reason why… Nevertheless, I am quite proud of the My Brothers Sun family and the manner in which we showed ourselves to the world. ♥️✨ I am holding my head high,” the actress who appeared in Everything Everywhere All At Once remarked.
Following the publication of the post, which features a number of photographs of Yeoh and her fellow cast members from the series, the post has now garnered more than 130,000 likes and hundreds of comments from fans and followers who are similarly sad.
“Michelle, I care deeply about you. 遠我們的媽媽—that was the response from her co-star in Brothers Sun, Jenny Yang.
“I was under the impression that we could continue to battle and find out who would really take control of the Jade Dragons… The co-star Johnny Kou expressed his feelings by saying, “I am still lingering here and missing my Sun family.”
I was so engrossed in the program that I decided to watch it for the first time this year since it was so entertaining and I fell in love with the characters. What a fantastic job it was! Thank you to Michelle and the rest of the actors and crew. Rupi Kaur, a poet, expressed her dissatisfaction at being informed of this news.
The decision to discontinue the series came as a surprise not only to the actors and crew, but also to the millions of fans and reviewers who had praised the series when it was first made available on the streaming service on January 4. Reviewers gave the program an average score of 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, while an audience rating of 91 percent was given to the episode. In addition, according to statistics provided by Netflix, the series featured on the Netflix Top 10 list of English-language series for a total of five weeks and reached its highest position on the app at number two.
The plot centers on Justin Chien, who plays the role of Charles Sun, a Taiwanese mobster who is forced to go to Los Angeles in order to save his mother (played by Yeoh) and younger brother (played by Sam Li) after an attempt on his father’s life (played by Kou). Brad Falchuk, who is most known for his work as a writer and producer on Glee, American Horror Story, and Pose, was one of the people that contributed to the creation of this show.
It is just two months after Yeoh’s Disney+ series, American Born Chinese, was similarly unexpectedly canceled after one season, despite earning positive reviews. This cancelation comes only two months after the last one.
