The passing has occurred of Toby Keith, a country musician who was famous for songs like “Red Solo Cup” and “Should Have Been a Cowboy,” among others. He was 62 years old.

His family delivered the news that the singer-songwriter “passed peacefully” on Monday night in a message that was published on X (which was previously known as Twitter). Twenty-two years ago, Keith was given a diagnosis of stomach cancer.

The announcement included the following: “Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5 while surrounded by his family.” “He fought his battle with dignity and bravery,” the judge said.

The note closed by asking for the recipient to “please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

Back in September of 2023, Keith disclosed that he had been diagnosed with cancer as he was in attendance at the People’s Choice Country Awards.

According to an interview that the late singer gave to E! News at the time, his battle with cancer is “a little bit of a roller coaster.” There are times when you have a terrific day, but you also have days when you aren’t doing well.

During his appearance on the red carpet, where he was accompanied by his wife of almost four decades, Tricia Lucus, he expressed his happiness by saying, “It’s always zero to sixty and sixty to zero but I feel good today.”

The first formal headlining gigs that Keith had performed after he disclosed that he had been diagnosed with cancer were held at Park MGM in Las Vegas in December of 2023.

“Hey there, everyone! Hey, my name is Toby Keith. It’s been quite some time. You are aware of what I have been doing; I have been riding the very same rollercoaster, but the Almighty has been riding shotgun. He is allowing me to drive for some reason, but we are going to make a significant statement,” Keith stated in a video that was uploaded to YouTube and used to publicize the performances. “I’m doing a little deal and thought I’d start in the great Las Vegas.”

Both of these concerts will be my first ones. When he continued, “They’re kind of like rehab shows; they’re designed to get the band back in sync and get me rolling again.” It’s the first time in my whole life that I’ve been absent for more than two years. Throughout my whole life, I have never missed a single year of work.

“Through COVID and cancer, the old devil’s been after me a little bit,” said Keith further. “I’ve got him by the horns right now, so instead of just sitting around and waiting, we’re gonna get the band back together.”

Throughout his career, Keith has performed for a number of presidents of the United States, including George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. Additionally, in the year 2021, President Trump bestowed upon him the National Medal of Arts.
