It’s been more than a decade since The Office aired, yet it’s still having a significant impact on people’s lives.

As Rainn Wilson, who portrays the beloved character Dwight Schrute in the NBC comedy, was passing through the Portland International Airport, he got a letter from a fan that was filled with an emotional message.

The heartfelt remark, which was sent by Melanie, a flight attendant, went as follows: “The Office helped me get through some of the most difficult days of my life.” I am unable to express my gratitude to you enough for that.

Friday was the day when Wilson, who is 58 years old, posted a picture of the message on X (which was then known as Twitter), along with the tale that accompanied it and a heartfelt homage to his Office family.

He commented, “I didn’t even see who dropped this on my lap at the PDX airport, but I greatly appreciate the sentiment, flight attendant Melanie of Alaska Airlines.” He expressed his gratitude to the flight attendant. “I am so grateful to have been a part of a program that moved, moved your heart, brought you solace, and inspired you. Moreover, this is still the case! “That is so f—ing uncommon.”

He went on to say, “This is not an open invitation to give me notes on napkins!” He proceeded by saying, “A continuous thank you to the entire Office family, cast, writers, crew, and especially AUDIENCE!”

A recent encounter that the actor had with a fan of the well-liked mockumentary series took place when he was traveling.

The actor from The Office took a humorous video of his seatmate viewing the popular series when they were on a trip in April of last year. The seatmate was entirely oblivious that Dwight himself was sitting in the seat next to himself.

Because he was wearing a face mask, a hat, and headphones, Wilson was almost unidentifiable when he was on the Delta aircraft. (In addition, he did not have on glasses, which were an essential component of his eccentric persona in The Office.)

The actor shook his head and looked over to the individual who was enjoying an episode of The Office as they were eating their dinner on the airplane in the footage that he posted to his Instagram Story.

“When the person sitting next to you has no idea who you are…” was the description that he added to the online video.

A prior statement made by the actor recognized the significance of the critically acclaimed comedy series, which had a total of 201 episodes broadcast between the years 2005 and 2013, to fans in October of 2020.

While they were both appearing together on the final episode of Wilson’s Hey There, Human Instagram Live series, he and his on-screen boss Steve Carell had a conversation about the series.

He said, “During this really dark time, I’ve heard from so many people that they’ve really appreciated having The Office there — that it has a warmth and humanity to it, kind of a family feel that makes it a special thing and that’s helped them during this time, and even helped their mental health.” Wilson was speaking about the unexpected resurgence of popularity of the show during the pandemic lockdowns. “One thing that’s been really gratifying for me is during this really dark time,” he said.
