It breaks my heart to contemplate the fact that there are children in the world who are unable to buy some of the fundamental requirements for survival. Unfortunately, having a hot lunch at school is one of those fundamental need that a lot of children and adolescents take for granted. When an eight-year-old child learned that one of his classmates was unable to buy a hot and substantial dinner from the school cafeteria, he realized that he needed to take action in order to help these individuals. Incredible is the only word that adequately describes his reaction to the circumstance.

Cayden Taipalus saw in February 2014 that a student at Challenger Elementary, which is his elementary school in Howell, Michigan, was unable to get a hot lunch because there was no money available in the child’s school lunch account. This was the reason for the kid’s inability to obtain that food. Instead, the pupil was provided with nothing more than a normal cheese sandwich to consume.

For students who were unable to purchase the hot lunch choices, the school provided an alternative meal that consisted of a sandwich, juice, and fruit. Amber Peters, Cayden’s mother, expressed her feelings to ABC News Today. “It upset the little boy, which in turn upset Cayden,” she said.

When Cayden finally informed his mother about it later that afternoon, he was already in a state of anguish due to the event that he had observed. The eight-year-old boy wanted to take action that would have a significant impact in order to guarantee that his buddy would no longer be refused a hot meal.

It was Cayden’s mother who assisted him. With the intention of raising funds, they first began recycling cans and bottles. Almost immediately after that, their friends and neighbors became aware of their efforts via social media and expressed a desire to assist them in providing assistance to children who were in need.

After that, Peters assisted Cayden in establishing a website for fundraising purposes with the title “Pay It Forward: No Kid Goes Hungry.” After informing his friends, neighbors, and family members about his efforts, they all excitedly donated to the cause of helping him pay off his friend’s lunch bill. The little child was able to accomplish his goal.

The pride that Peters has for her kid is beyond measure. “I am so very proud of my son,” she said in an interview with ABC News Today. Given that he is just eight years old, it is quite remarkable to me that he is able to comprehend the notion around this. The man has a heart of gold.

“Pay It Forward: No Kid Goes Hungry,” the effort that Cayden has been working on, has been a tremendous success. Before heading to school each morning, Cayden would make sure that the money was presented to the school. Almost 150 meals were purchased with his initial contribution of sixty-four dollars. Donations totaling $7,000 were received as the fundraising website saw a meteoric rise in popularity. What began as a modest endeavor proceeded to fly to the point that individuals from as far away as Hong Kong began contributing to the cause.

“We went from just paying off his elementary school to paying off the entire Livingston County,” according to Peters. As the pleased mother continued, she said, “Doing something small can turn into something big and go a long way with it.” It is a significant act to “pay it forward.”

In addition, Peters said that Cayden was unconcerned by the media exposure that he gained as a result of the fundraising efforts; rather, he was just interested in assisting the greatest number of pupils possible. I didn’t even bother to ask Cayden for a name (of the young man who was the inspiration for the campaign),” she stated. It is not my intention to alter the appearance of another person. Reduced meals are the primary focus of our attention.

Thomas Gould, who is the director of public relations for Howell Public Schools, was equally impressed by the activities of the eight-year-old child. “What Cayden is doing is very generous and it shows how caring all of our students are,” added the administrator. “It’s also important to know that all of our kids are offered lunch no matter what.”

This uplifting tale demonstrates that every single individual, regardless of how little they may seem, has the potential to make a difference in the lives of people who are in their immediate vicinity.
