Keeping the legacy of Matthew Perry alive is something that Jennifer Aniston is pushing her followers to do.
At the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards, which took place on Sunday in Santa Monica, California, the actress from The Morning Show addressed out on the passing of her late costar from Friends.
Aniston, who is 54 years old, responded to Entertainment Tonight’s question on how she thinks Perry’s followers would continue to commemorate his legacy by saying that they should “celebrate him.”
By the time he passed away on October 28th, at the age of 54, Perry had been battling addiction throughout his whole life. According to the findings of an autopsy report that was acquired by People in December, the cause of his loss was determined to be acute effects of ketamine.
There were a number of reasons that were identified as contributing to his loss, which was determined to be accidental. These causes included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, which is a drug used to treat opioid use disorder.
The news of Perry’s passing prompted his loved ones from all over the Hollywood community, including all five of his costars from Friends, to post heartfelt condolences to him on various social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. An further way in which Perry’s family paid tribute to his legacy was by creating a foundation in his name to provide assistance to those who are struggling with drug misuse. This was something that the late actor had intended to undertake before to his passing.
During the month of November, Aniston took to the internet to urge her fans to make a donation to the Matthew Perry Foundation. She said on Giving Tuesday that Perry “would have been grateful for the love”.
During a recent interview that took place in December with Variety, Aniston discussed her hopes and dreams for how Perry will be remembered. She said, “He was in a good mood.” “I desire for him so much. We all do it. We couldn’t help but laugh out loud at his antics.
After that, she went on to describe the innumerable tributes that came pouring in after his passing as “so beautiful.”
“I hope he can know that he was loved in a way that he never thought he was,” the actress said in an interview with several media outlets.
On November 15, Aniston broke her silence over the passing of Perry by sharing one of the last text messages she had received from the actor. In the message, she recalled how Perry had the ability to make everyone “laugh hard.”
“Oh wow, this one has really touched a nerve… “Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before,” Aniston said in her Instagram tribute beside a picture of herself and Perry from the last episode of the comedy, which was released in 2004.
“At some time in our life, each and every one of us will suffer a loss. The loss of a loved one or one’s own life. It is possible to have moments of pleasure and appreciation for having loved someone to such a profound degree if you are willing to give yourself permission to sit in this pain. And our affection for him was profound. He had such a profound impact on our family.
Following that, she remarked, “We were always the six of us.” The trajectory of who we were and what our life was going to be was irrevocably altered by the fact that this was a family that had been selected for us. For Matty, he was well aware that he enjoyed making other people laugh. According to what he himself said, he believed that he was going to pass away if he did not hear the ‘laugh’. The very existence of his life hinged on it. Indeed, he was successful in accomplishing that very goal. It was him who made us all chuckle. Laugh out loud as well.
Additionally, Aniston said that she had been reflecting on the many text message chats that she and Perry had shared over the course of their relationship. “Laughter, tears, and then laughter once more,” she said. I’ll keep them at my side for all of eternity.”
