Alan Hamel, the husband of Suzanne Somers, has said that the actress from Three’s Company was put to rest wearing a pair of shoes that were completely unexpected.

In an exclusive interview with People, Hamel, who is 87 years old, says, “Suzanne never really had boots designed for hiking on the rocks, so I ordered the Timberland boots on her behalf.”

“[I] made my gift personal by drawing on them in a few words that represented our life to some degree and made them very personal to Suzanne,” Hamel provides an explanation. “I made my gift very personal to Suzanne.”

In October, Suzanne passed away as a result of breast cancer. As the television presenter confesses, his late wife owned “every manolo Blahnik ever made,” but he also says that it would have been “predictable but not very personal” to have Suzanne “wear manolo Blahniks for her final trip.”

The phrase “I am wearing you, and my boots will keep me safe” was something that she said each time she put on the Timberlands.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the Canadian performer said that the pair had devised a “early morning routine” that required them to wear Somers’ iconic boot. Over the course of more than half a century, the couple lived in Malibu and Palm Springs, both of which were next to mountains.

The regimen that they followed “always included hiking to the top of one of the mountains, where there was a creek and a large flat rock in the middle of the creek.”

“By the time we got there, which was about a two-hour hike, the rock had been warmed by the morning sun,” according to Hamel. Following the completion of our meal on the rock, we would have a snooze on the rock for one hour, and then we would trek back down to the ground and get to work.

During the moment when the actress from Three’s Company passed away, she was encircled by Hamel, her son Bruce, and other members of her close family.

It was one day before the actress’s 77th birthday when she passed away. The celebration of her birthday was attended by a number of members of the family, some of whom drove in on the day of the event. According to Hamel, it was after her passing that they made the decision to commemorate the day in a different manner.

According to Hamel’s recollection, “We actually toasted last night.” “I believe there were twelve of us present, and we all raised a glass to Suzanne. Without a doubt, we will engage in some activity today. Although I do not know what it will be, I am certain that it will feature a great deal of cake since Suzanne was obsessed with cake.

On November 30, the family of Suzanne Somers gathered together to “celebrate Suzanne’s incredible life” and her legendary Hollywood career. This event was a celebration of the actress’s life and legacy with her closest friends and family members.

This week, a second memorial service will be held in San Bruno, California, which is Somers’ hometown. Later this month, the family will make available some of the festivities that will take place at this memorial service.
