The actress feels that her four decades on the soap have “gone by in the blink of an eye.”
Her parents, William Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, who are best known for their work on the soap operas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, were under the impression that she would not pursue a career in acting. After an absence of four years, Bell made her way back to the performance, but this time she only had a few words to speak. The audience’s response was instantaneous. Following the receipt of some complimentary fan letters on her looks, she was finally cast as a series regular in the role of Cricket.
“A few of folks had written saying, ‘I keep this on in my living room all the time.’… She remembers that “it was kind of cool, because my grandson, my niece, or whoever, turned around when Cricket came on, came over and sat next to me and started watching, because she was someone their age,” because she was someone their age.
Bell changed with her character during the course of the show’s run, which saw her go from being a model to a “sophisticated district attorney.” In 1997, she traveled to Santa Barbara to wed Scott Martin, a graphic designer based in Chicago who was also an old friend from high school. Along with a production firm, the couple is also parents to two children: Christian, who is 22 years old, and Samantha, who is 21 years old.
In addition to her role on The Young and the Restless, Bell has appeared in a number of films for the Lifetime network, including as 2018’s Mistress Hunter and 2019’s Nightmare Tenant. She also received a Daytime Emmy Award in 2014 for Outstanding Special Class Short Format Daytime for the online series mI promise, which she created, produced, and acted in. Additionally, Bell is in the process of producing two series at this time.
“My parents taught us, and whether I’m out in the yard with my dogs or whatever, I’m constantly trying to come up with something for Shark Tank, or coming up with a new concept for a series,” she adds. “Because [my brain] simply keeps going and going, my spouse produces this noise that sounds like a machine motor. However, I find that to be rather enjoyable for me.
However, at this time, the majority of Bell’s thoughts are still preoccupied with The Young and the Restless and the other cast members. Following the passage of forty years, she and the actors have become “crazy close.”
In the 40th anniversary episode, Tricia Cast, who played Cricket’s longtime closest friend Nina Webster, stayed with Kristen Bell and her family at their home in Los Angeles as they shot sequences for the episode. She also messages her castmates on a daily basis, including Eric Braeden, who portrays the role of Victor Newman.
“When I started, I was a kid to them, and now, to be able to speak with everybody in an adult relationship, knowing their kids and them having watched our kids grow up, it’s so special,” she adds. “When I started, I was a kid to them.” “I’ve known some of these people for 40 years and have enjoyed every single second of our time together.”
