The marriage of Frances Bean Cobain and Riley Hawk has taken place!
Documents acquired by TMZ indicate that the couple applied for and was granted a marriage license in San Diego County one month prior to their wedding. On Tuesday, a spokesman for renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk, Riley’s father, confirmed the news to PEOPLE. Tony Hawk is Riley’s grandfather.
The date of the couple’s wedding is listed as October 7 on the marriage certificate that was acquired by TMZ. The ceremony was presided over by R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe, who is also Frances’ godfather.
The relationship between Courtney Love, age 31, and pro skateboarder Riley, age 30, was made public a year ago. Courtney Love is the daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, vocalist for Nirvana.
Frances stepped away from social media for a whole year before making her comeback to Instagram in January 2022. Upon her return, she posted a carousel of photographs of occasions that she described as having “brought me a great amount of joy,” some of which showed glimpses of her connection with Riley.
In one of the photographs, Riley can be seen beaming a huge grin while carrying a dog that is decked up in a costume celebrating the holiday of Christmas. In a different photo, Frances and Riley can be seen cuddling up to one another on a yacht beside his biological father Tony and his stepmother Catherine Goodman.
“I took a year long break from posting on Instagram which was exceptionally good for my mental, emotional & spiritual health,” Frances posted a carousel caption. “2021 brought me more into the present moment than I’ve ever been, which I’m deeply grateful for.”
She went on to say, “I wanted to share a few moments that were captured or created this past year that brought me a considerable amount of joy.” Happy New Year! May all of your 2022 be marked by genuine relationships with others, an abundance of heartfelt experiences, and a thorough understanding of who you are.
After tying the wedding in June 2014, Frances and Isaiah Silva were married for a total of 21 months until the marriage ended.
In 2016, it was verified by PEOPLE that she had filed for divorce, claiming the inability to reconcile their differences as the reason. Documents that were acquired by PEOPLE at the time reveal that Frances said that Silva should not be entitled to any money from her father’s inheritance, which at the time was valued at $450 million. Frances’s statements support this position.
Frances and Kurt eventually got into a battle about who should possess Kurt’s famous guitar, which ultimately resulted in Frances losing ownership of the instrument to Silva in the divorce settlement.
