Colin is a loving father of two daughters called Olivia and Charlotte, in addition to being a famous actor and producer. His children’s names are Olivia and Charlotte. Colin isn’t always pleased with the way that Tom and Wilson are rearing his children, despite the fact that his children have strong relationships with their renowned grandparents.
Tom and Wilson gave an interview to Entertainment Tonight in June 2023, during which they discussed how much they loved being grandparents, and it seems that they are still having a good time with the role. During the course of the interview, the pair was in New York City to see the premiere of “Asteroid City” by Wes Anderson at Alice Tully Hall.
During their conversation, Tom commented on his grandkids, saying, “All you gotta do is love those little brats and they’re better than TV…. They’re not little brats, they’re extraordinary young women.” Wilson seemed to agree with her husband, as she said, “They are extraordinary young women.”
Tom and Wilson are the grandparents of Michaiah, who is Chet’s kid. In addition to Colin’s daughters Olivia and Charlotte, Tom and Wilson also have grandchild Michaiah.
Later, when asked about the secret to being a fantastic grandma, Wilson revealed that the most essential thing is to make the effort to form a connection with one’s grandkids and to pay attention to them. She said this was the most important thing.
“You just got to hang out,” she said. “You got to get on the trampoline with them. You got to get in the pool with them. You got to get on the tennis court. You got to do all the sports.”
Later on, Tom weighed in and said that grandparents should constantly be aware of how to create great meals for the small ones, as he playfully added, “You have to make their macaroni and cheese just perfectly.”
This was not the first time that Tom discussed his experience of being a grandfather. In an interview with E! News in 2018, he said that the “entertainment factor” is the nicest part about having grandkids as a grandparent.
He said, “You don’t need to watch TV; all you have to do is keep an eye on and follow them around, and your day will be made.”
In an interview given in 2019 to Us Weekly Magazine, Colin Hanks stated that neither of his daughters have any interest in following in his or his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. The father of two stated that he kept telling the girls they could do whatever they wanted, but he was more interested in seeing what the kids choose to do and “what they sort of gravitate toward.”
He went on to say that Olivia and Charlotte are aware of how prominent their family is, but Colin said that they are not very interested in the entertainment industry.
“They’re aware of what he does for sure,” Colin said of what his children believed about their grandfather. “It’s just the same way they’re aware of what their father does for a living, but they don’t have really much interest in it,” he continued. “I mean, I wasn’t on Hannah Montana, so they don’t really have any interest in what I do,” he added.
Tom and Wilson seemed glad to be taking care of their granddaughters, but Colin said in a separate interview that he doesn’t like the way the couple deals with conflicts involving the young girls. He joked about this in an appearance on “The Today Show” in October 2022:
“It would be wonderful if they paid attention to the kids’ bedtime and actually cooked food that the kids would eat,” you say. “It would be great if they paid attention to the kids’ bedtime.”
After more investigation, Colin determined that his parents are “fine” and “great” grandparents. He also said that when his children visit their grandparents, they “get a lot of sugar” and do not always stick to a “schedule.” This is something that he is okay with.
