Rory Feek is a composer and performer in the country music genre. When he was a teenager, he taught himself how to play the guitar, which was the beginning of his career in music. Rory took a detour in his life when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served there for two tours of service before beginning his career in music. After completing his military obligation, he settled down in Dallas, Texas, and began his career as a composer there.
Later on in his career, he formed the musical combo Joey + Rory with his wife, Joey Feek, who also played in the band. Rory was the one who contributed acoustic guitar to their sound in addition to singing and writing songs for the band. The happy pair tied the knot in the year 2002, which was six years prior to when they first made their formal debut as a musical team.
Rory had previously worked as a composer for a number of well-known country performers prior to the establishment of the pair in 2008. These artists included Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, and Randy Travis. Following their successful performance on CMT’s “Can You Duet,” Rory and Joey promptly secured a recording deal and went to work on their project.
They worked together to produce two compilation albums, one holiday album, seven studio albums, and one holiday album. As they progressed in the field of music, the married pair continued to experiment with their appearance and manner of making music, despite having received positive reviews and garnering acclaim for their work.
After a long and difficult struggle with cancer, Joey lost his battle with the disease on March 4, 2016, leaving Rory as the only parent of their daughter, Indiana Feek, also known as Indy. The country music star is now solely responsible for the upbringing of his daughter, Indiana.
Rory regularly sends forth photographs and videos that she has taken of her adorable daughter Indy engaging in a variety of activities, such as singing and learning to play the piano. In one of these videos, which was uploaded to Rory’s official channel on YouTube, her father and daughter performed a duet together under the title “Papa What If.”
Rory has had a very intriguing personal life in addition to his very successful profession in music. He has had two marriages and one divorce throughout his lifetime. On August 3, 1985, Rory became a married man for the first time by tying the knot with Tamara Gilmer. Before being divorced in 1992, the exes were married for a total of seven years during which time they raised a family together. During the course of their marriage, they became parents to two girls whom they named Heidi Feek and Hopie Feek.
In 2002, Rory gave marriage another chance by entering into a union for the second time, this time with country singer Joey. Joey was Rory’s second wife. The two sweethearts were married for 14 years until Joey’s death in 2016 from metastatic cervical cancer. Joey had been fighting the disease for some time.
Rory and Joey had a real connection, which shone through in both their marital lives and the music that they created together. Their deep connection shone through not just throughout her health struggle but even after she succumbed to the sickness she was battling. Throughout the difficult times that she was going through with her health, Rory kept his followers up to speed with frequent blog postings. Since then, he has released songs in her honor after she passed away.
The couple brought their daughter, Indy, into the world exactly two years before Joey passed away. She was given a diagnosis of Down syndrome not long after her birth; nevertheless, despite having this genetic issue, she is still able to take pleasure in life and put a smile on the faces of millions of people all over the globe. Since the year 2008, when Joey and Rory made their debut on the country music industry as contestants on the CMT program “Can You Duet,” they have documented their life in a manner that makes it clear that they have never hidden anything from the public.
Rory chronicles his life as well as the lives of his daughter on his blog, which is titled “This Life I Live.” The doting father is fully committed to his responsibilities as the only parent of his little daughter. He is aware that doing the task without the girl’s mother would be challenging, but he feels that Joey will be with him in spirit to help guide him through the trip.
The fact that Indy took after his father demonstrates that greatness can come from humble beginnings. When she was a child, she would accompany her parents onstage whenever they performed. She continued to accompany her father onstage even after her mother had passed away so that she could see him perform. In spite of this, Indy did not express interest in performing with her father until the year 2022. Rory chose the ideal song for his daughter to sing on her very first performance with him.
“It didn’t take me but a moment to think of which song it should be – one that I’ve known and loved for years,” she said. “It didn’t take me but a moment to think of which song it should be.” In fact, for many years,” he wrote on his own site.
Shel Silverstein’s song “Daddy What If” was one of the first songs that the country singer ever taught his younger daughter, Indy, and he did the same thing with his older daughter, Heidi, when she was Indy’s age. He then wrote down the words of the song, although he made a little adjustment to the lyrics by changing “Daddy” to “Papa.” Rory altered the lyrics in order to reflect the fact that Indy refers to him by a different name. Indy, for her part, made it a point to diligently study the songs, and before long, she was performing with her father.
Rory described her daughter’s emotions in the following way: “She was so proud of herself and so happy that she could sing a real song with her Papa,”
“By the time Christmas rolled around, she was joining me on stage to sing it in front of the room full of people who’d traveled from all across the country to be with us… ” “and oh, what a special moment it was for her, for me, and for the surprised people in the concert hall,” he recounted. “Oh, what a special moment it was for all of us.”
On June 19, 2022, Rory uploaded the images of the father-daughter duet on his YouTube page. The upload was accompanied by a blog post that paid tribute to Rory’s father, Joey’s father, as well as Rory’s children, Heidi and Hopie.
