Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean’s Captain Sandy Yawn just popped the question to her girlfriend of five years, Leah Shafer, and she received an affirmative response.
Yawn told E! News that he had been considering marrying Leah for years before he proposed to her over the weekend. The proposal took place over the weekend. “I knew the moment I met her, but everything had to fall into place at the right time.” Before we got engaged, I wanted to make sure that we could live a normal life together.
As Yawn said to E! News, “Leah wanted the fairytale, and to me, Leah represents elegance.” Shafer is a gospel singer and aesthetician who hails from Denver. Yawn confessed to E! News that Shafer was the inspiration for the proposal on the beach.
“I made arrangements to take a boat trip to a secluded bay. She went on to say that she had the place of the proposal “decorated with flowers with a path to a small table accompanied by three violinists where we could sit and have a small date.”
The boat captain, who was 58 years old at the time, said that she had been looking forward to proposing to Shafer, who was 49 years old, for a very long time.
She told the publication, “I truly could not wait!” “After I finished sharing my love wish list, which I had written earlier and wanted, I got down on one knee.” Then, she responded with a ‘yes!'”
Yawn described the occasion as one that was rich with happiness and strong feelings, saying of Shafer, “The look on her face was priceless, and my heart exploded!” It was crammed to the brim with everything that I could possibly think of at the time. I’m not sure how or why, but now we seem to have a deeper connection than we had before. There is a kind of energy here that I have never felt in any other part of my life. As Leah likes to say, “I love her beyond,” and I feel the same way about her.
In May of 2019, Yawn was the first to disclose that she was dating Shafer on X, which was then known as Twitter. She did so by posting a link to an interview she had done with The Cheat Sheet and tweeting the phrases “Love is Love!” and “So Happy.”
Yawn has revealed some details of her and Shafer’s “unexpected” affair, including the fact that the two of them originally connected on Facebook in June of 2018, after Shafer had congratulated her on the Bravo reality show.
“She sent me a nice message that said, ‘I came across your show, congratulations, many blessings,’ ” Yawn told the source, adding that the addition of “many blessings” grabbed her attention as a self-proclaimed spiritual person since it was included in the letter. “I came across your show, congratulations, many blessings,” she added.
The two ultimately met in real life in Los Angeles, where Yawn was living at the time, after exchanging messages on the social networking app.
Shafer observed that the two had an instant chemistry with one other. According to The Cheat Sheet, she said that their first face-to-face meeting took place in November 2018 and that she had to acknowledge that “it was definitely unexpected.” When you meet another person with whom you have such a profound connection, it is impossible to express yet very lovely all at the same time.
Yawn uprooted his life and moved to Colorado from Los Angeles in order to be with Shafer.
Previously, Yawn disclosed the significance of her relationship with Shafer in her book titled “Be the Calm or Be the Storm: Leadership Lessons from a Woman at the Helm,” where she said, “I believe God has a way of preparing you for ‘the one.'” He was aware of the fact that I was not prepared for her all those years ago. And she was not prepared for me to arrive. Both of us were getting ourselves ready for the other. God hung around and waited for us. He provided me with opportunity to make new choices and to become more mindful, and as a result, when that adorable little Facebook message appeared on my screen, I was ready to respond.
According to her own website, Shafer was previously married to Ross Shafer for a period of twenty years before the formation of Yawn. The couple had a teen daughter together named Lauren “Lolo” Rae.
